Whispers In The Stacks
Michael Kaltwang
Library Director
Greetings to you all. May is “Get Caught Reading” month. Get Caught Reading is a nationwide public service campaign launched by the Association of American Publishers to remind people of all ages how much fun it is to read. May is officially Get Caught Reading month, but the celebration lasts throughout the year. Get Caught Reading is supported by hundreds of celebrities, including LL Cool J, Dylan and Cole Sprouse, and the newest addition, Olivia the Pig. Come visit your local public library this month and check out our very cool “Get Caught Reading” celebrity posters scattered around the library.
May is also “National Military Appreciation” month. Declared by Congress in 1999, May was selected as National Military Appreciation Month, an observance honoring the sacrifices of the United States Armed Forces. There are more military-related observances during the month of May than any other month, so it is an appropriate time to celebrate men and women in uniform. During May, we recognize Loyalty Day, Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), Armed Forces Day, Military Spouses Day and Memorial Day. It is a month to honor those who are serving and those who have served
. Hot new books to warm you up in May:
Unified by Tim Scott
The Fallen by David Baldacci
The Road Home by Beverly Lewis
The Family Gathering by Robin Carr
A Nantucket Wedding by Nancy Thayer
