Tasting Today- Chateau Trillol Courbieres

The Languedoc Roussillon is the largest wine making region in the South of France which stretches along the Mediterranean coast from Spain out West, to Provence in the East. The Languedoc-Roussillon is sometimes called "le Midi" which can be loosely translated to "the land of the midday sun". The area boasts some of the best value wines in France and is best known for it's juicy reds which have a typical "South of France flavour" characterized by fruity. earthy. minerality.

A core appelation within the Languedoc Roussillon is Courbieres, and in the valley of Courbieres is where Chateau Trillol is situated, owned by the iconic Sichel family. The vineyard is at an altitude of 400m perched at the foothills of the Pyrenees. This altitude means the fruit on the vines ripens slowly and absorbs the peppery aromas of the surrounding Garrigue scrubland which can be attributed for the length and well balanced structure of the wine.

Tasting Note
This is a classic Southern blend of 39% Grenache, 32% Carignan and 29% Syrah. The fruit is destemmed before a long fermentation with daily pigage to extract colour and tannins, before aging 12 months in French oak.

Deep ruby red in appearance. Blackcurrants, plums and earthy spice on the nose. On the palate a decadent concentration and flavours of cranberries, firm black berries and a wholesome peppery spice. A crunchy acidity which is well rounded by the soft sweet oak finish. This is a savoury and balanced wine.

Available to wine club for $28.90.
