Dr. Todd Retires after 42 Years

After celebrating his 42nd year of service to Hannibal-LaGrange University, Dr. Richard Todd, professor of physics, will be retiring this summer.

“We’re grateful for the many years of excellent service that Dr. Todd gave to Hannibal-LaGrange University,” said Dr. Anthony Allen, HLGU President. “Dr. Todd has always been exemplary in the classroom and in his involvement in mentoring and discipling students here on our campus. Dr. Todd clearly could have taught at any university, but chose to give his life and career here at Hannibal-LaGrange, and for that we are grateful.”

Dr. Todd earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics in 1960 and a Master of Arts in Physics in 1962 from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. He then went on to teach at SIU-C until 1966 before earning a Ph.D. in Physics from Michigan State University in 1971. Dr. Todd was soon hired to be a faculty member at Western Michigan University where he taught for four years. He joined the HLGU faculty in in 1976.

Dr. Todd has been pastor of Union Baptist Church south of Clarence, MO for more than 25 years, preaching on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. On the first and third Sundays, Dr. Todd can be found preaching at Barnes Chapel, south of Columbia, MO, where he has served for more than 10 years.

Dr. Todd and his wife Jeanne have two children, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys reading, woodworking, and discipling and encouraging other men.

A plaque honoring Dr. Todd and his service to HLGU will be hung in the physics lab in the Carroll Science Center.
