*NEW* Stenswick Benson Scholarship Recipients
The Stenswick Benson Scholarship Award Program began in February of 1991 through MASE (Minnesota Administrators for Special Education). Its purpose is to recognize the legacy of the many leaders within Special Education represented by Ellsworth Stenswick and Loren Benson through a scholarship award to an individual completing exemplary graduate study in the field of special education.

Funds have been raised primarily through an auction now held every other year during the Special Education Directors' Fall Conference. Scholarships are awarded to individuals completing exemplary graduate studies in the field of special education at a Minnesota public college or university.

*NEW* Research Request
Michael Weerts is a doctoral student at St. Cloud State University, researching the co-teaching model of teaming the special education and general education teacher in the same classroom. He would like to send a survey to co-teachers in Minnesota elementary schools who are implementing the co-teaching practice. If you know of elementary schools that are implementing the co-teaching model and can share contact info with Michael, please email him at mdweerts@stcloudstate.edu.

*NEW* Scholarship for People with Disabilities
For many people, education is a crucial factor in obtaining meaningful employment and personal satisfaction. The Scholarship for People with Disabilities provides financial assistance so that students with disabilities can increase their career options and enrich their lives through education and training.

The Scholarship for People with Disabilities program is administered by Courage Center through a Scholarship Committee. Funds are made available through the private donation of Melvin and Sally Mooty. Scholarships will not exceed $1,000. The scholarship monies are to fund tuition, books and supplies.

The program is intended to assist people who have a sensory impairment or physical disability who want to pursue educational goals or gain technical expertise beyond high school. Applicants will need to identify how a scholarship will support their educational aspirations and career goals. Selection emphasis is placed on the applicants’ intentions and achievements rather than solely on his/her graduation ranking.

Crowne Plaza, Bloomington, MN
Registration Online
Online flyer

Registration is open for the 13th annual Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS)/RtI Summer Institute. The purpose of the summer institute will be to train teams from your buildings on best practices in implementing and evaluating core (Tier 1), supplemental (Tier 2), and intensive (Tier 3) instructional programs. We have added content on aligning reading and math standards with instructional practices along with significant content on research-based strategies for improving academic achievement. Similar to previous years, time will be built into the conference for reflection and analysis of current building and district needs along with evaluation of implementation efforts. This conference is appropriate for all ranges of district RtI implementation (beginning to advanced) and for both Pre-K, elementary and secondary settings. We strongly encourage you to consider sending teams that have balanced representation between regular and special education along with a building administrator. The brochure describes the institute in more detail and will inform you of registration procedures. You can also register online by following this link to the online registration. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at info@kimgibbons.org. This event sold out quickly last year, so register early!

Cognitive Coaching Foundation Seminar
Sessions run August 8, 2018 - February 7, 2019
More information contact norgon@charter.net

Research clearly indicates that it’s not evaluation that improves performance; it’s the conversations about evaluation. Cognitive Coaching is a powerful approach used by administrators to enhance those conversations. This coaching model focuses on thinking, the core of what actually impacts professional learning and growth. By using Cognitive Coaching along with evaluation, administrators support and enhance long-term sustainable growth for teachers, and ultimately for their students. The eight-day Cognitive Coaching Foundation Seminar will be offered during School Year 2018-19, in Plymouth, MN, beginning August 8, 2018, with the final session on February 7, 2019.
