CMIH Summer 2018 Newsletter

Welcome to the summer 2018 newsletter, updating you on some of our recent CMIH activities.  We recently held our annual academic one-day conference, engaging with a variety of scientists with some really great talks and networking.  The University celebrated the 5 year anniversary of its collaboration with GSK - this type of industry engagement is key to the centre, and its great to be part of a such a broad collaborative success!  Our faculty have been busy the last few months with awards, publications, and a new book release, and very excitingly for us, CMIH director Carola Schönlieb was recently promoted to Professor! Read on for further info and additional news, and do share this newsletter with any colleagues who may be interested.

On Wednesday 2nd May we held our annual one-day research conference; ‘Developments in Healthcare Imaging – Connecting with Academia’.  The event brought together academics working on advances in imaging technology with researchers who investigate new image analysis methods, to help address current challenges. This was hosted by the TGM, and held in partnership with the Liverpool Centre for Mathematical Sciences in Healthcare (LCMH).  Sessions were chaired by the LCMH, the CMIH, and the Medical Image Analysis Network (MedIAN), and also saw a session of short ‘elevator pitches’ from partners and other EPSRC funded Maths in Healthcare Centres, which were complemented by a poster session running through lunch. The event saw a variety of talks, many of which are available to watch online following the link below.

Dr Martin Graves, CMIH investigator, Head of MRI Physics at Cambridge University Hospitals and Affiliated Lecturer in the Department of Radiology was awarded a prestigious Senior Fellowship of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) at its recent meeting in Paris. This has been given in recognition of his contributions to oncological and vessel wall imaging as well as MRI education and training.
The University of Cambridge & GSK recently celebrated 5 years of their alliance with an afternoon event. The two organisations work together on more than 80 collaborations including 26 projects funded through GSK's ‘Varsity funding programme’. The CMIH are pleased to be part of this, with GSK being one of our major industrial partners, & have recently increased engagement with GSK funding 5 phd studentships in the mathematics of healthcare.
