Michigan Tech is proud to announce Dr. Janet Callahan as the new dean of the College of Engineering. She starts her new position on July 1, 2018.
Callahan comes to Michigan Tech from Boise State University, where she was a professor of materials science and engineering and served as chair of the Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Callahan to the University. Her record of scholarship, leadership, and innovation makes her well suited to lead the College of Engineering as it continues to move forward,” says Jacqueline Huntoon, provost and vice president for academic affairs.
“Each dean selected in the history of a college has the opportunity to help shape that college’s trajectory,“ says Callahan. “It will be my greatest honor to work with the faculty, staff and administration at Michigan Tech to assure an exceptional quality educational experience for students.”
Callahan was an assistant and associate professor in material science and engineering at Georgia Tech, and founding associate dean of the College of Engineering at Boise State University. She holds degrees in chemical engineering, metallurgy, and materials science from the University of Connecticut at Storrs.
Her work in materials synthesis for medical therapeutics, high-temperature alloys in industrial applications, and STEM educational initiatives has earned funding from industrial, state, and federal sponsors, including an NSF CAREER award.
