Please join us a week from today for a self-guided tour of one of our Lawns to Lettuce sites in Monroe! We'll have experts on hand to support your dreams of a lawn-free and food-filled existence! Get more details by clicking on the flyer.
Succession Planting. Consider planting a new row of your beans or cool season crops every 2-3 weeks.  This evens out the harvest so you always have a new supply ready.
Test 2-3 Inches Down Before Watering. As we enter into the summer heat, remember to check your soil before watering. The soil 2-3 inches down should be dry before you water.  You can reduce your watering frequency by watering in the mornings and by fully saturating the soil each time.
Protect Your Plants. Newly planted seeds and seedlings are favorites for all types of little critters. You can keep your plants protected by using a garden fabric row cover. These fabrics allow light and water to get to your plants but deter many pests.
Over the past two months, Snohomish Conservation District and local community groups have been busy growing veggie starts for the benefit of others. Reverend Jim Eichner from Food Bank Farm, utilized help from numerous girl scouts and corporate groups, to aid in his goal of raising one million pounds of fresh produce for food banks by 2021. Monroe High FFA students have also been busy growing veggies for others - through their annual plant sale, as well as for local residents of Housing Hope.  Read more

Thank you to nearly 70 people who pledged to plant a row! Tell your friends to join this movement. If they live locally (Snohomish County and Camano Island) we will send seeds out to all who sign up before the end of May.

Pledge to Plant a Row, or click below, and join the movement of gardeners supporting a great cause. We will help you throughout the season with ways to share your bounty with those that need it most.

*We're sending seeds to residents of Snohomish County and Camano Island, only.

Welcome, Jill!

We would like to welcome Jill Farrant to our Lawns to Lettuce team. Jill is our WSU summer intern and will be working with our community partners as a garden ambassador.

Jill is in her senior year studying human development, environmental science, and organic agriculture. She has 10 years experience growing food with sustainable gardening practices.

Look for her at any or our upcoming Lawns to Lettuce events and feel free to reach out to her at jfarrant@snohomishcd.org.

If you grow things you like to eat, you will enjoy gardening and growing your own food more!
