Donate education, support a student!

This is the second newsletter of the recently established iSTEPup foundation. First of all we would like to thank you for all support that has already been given. Together we already have reached 1/4 of the desired amount!

Further below we will gladly inform you about the current students, the Albert Schweitzer Prize 2018, and interviews in the local media.

Student Updates

Paul Kalungi, Uganda, Nursing student:
“Previous semester things knocked me down in terms of performance and I promised to improve this semester and I want to let you know that am walking the tal. We have two progressive tests coming up on the 5th of next month. I want to keep the fire burning until I finish my end of semester exams to get a very good score after computing.”

Paul Kwofie, Ghana, Medicine student:
“My first and second semester of the first year at school has been such an intense one coupled with several hours of classroom work and laboratory work. I am currently writing my final exams of my first year education. As part of the university’s community-oriented curriculum, I am supposed to undertake a four week nursing training at a government hospital in the upcoming vacation which starts on 16th May, 2018 as a way of exposing me to the Health Delivery System.”

Soon, the complete study-results and progress of Paul Kalungi and Paul Kwofie will be updated on our website.

The Albert Schweitzer Prize 2018

The Albert Schweitzer Prize (ASP) 2018 was presented in the "Royal Tropical Institute" in Amsterdam last month. The ASP is part of the Albert Schweitzer Fund (NASF), which annually encourages projects to improve healthcare in Africa.

The iSTEPup foundation signed up for this award. Luckily, the iSTEPup foundation passed the selection procedure. After this procedure, a top three of projects was formed by a jury. These three projects were still in the race to win the main prize of 5000 euros. Unfortunately, the iSTEPup foundation did not belong to the top three. However, the iSTEPup foundation still had a chance to win the award for the most voted project by the public.

Recruitment of votes was possible online, but also during the poster presentation on the day of the award ceremony. On the day of the award ceremony, we first met all other participants of the projects. Knowledge about starting such projects was shared with each other, which was very helpful. Despite all your votes and the poster session, the foundation did not win the award of the most votes.

We want to thank you for voting and supporting our mission! We gained a lot of  inspiration and information that we will be using to keep improving iSTEPup.
Nevertheless, the iSTEPup foundation still has the confidence to raise the kickstart amount of 10.000 euros at the end of August.

From Waste Paper To Knowledge

The local initiative OPA (Waste Paper Recycling) is stimulating the recycling process of waste paper. The volunteers working for OPA are motivating people to recycle waste paper, by using the generated money through recycling, to support a charity. This time iSTEPup was the foundation they decided to support. OPA donated €1000 to iSTEPup. We thank OPA a lot for this beautiful contribution.

Various local companies are supporting iSTEPup, if you are also interested in contributing to our mission, let us know.
