KiwiSport TARGETED Funding Round now open 2018

We are pleased to invite applications for our next targeted funding round.


The KiwiSport Regional Partnership Fund (RPF) aims to:
  • Increase the number of school-aged children participating in organised sport;
  • Increase the availability and accessibility of sport opportunities for all school-aged children;
  • Support children to develop skills that will enable them to participate effectively in sport at both primary and secondary level.

Nationwide KiwiSport review underway
Sport NZ are currently undertaking a nationwide review of the KiwiSport Regional Partnership Fund (RPF).

The KiwiSport Review is future focussed, with the objective to identify how KiwiSport can best impact young people’s participation from 2020 onwards.  Sport NZ want to understand what changes and improvements, if any, could be applied to the KiwiSport RPF to achieve New Zealanders developing a life-long love of participating in community sport.

KiwiSport partner successes of 2017/18
Currently 32 projects are funded through the KiwiSport Regional Partnership Fund (RPF). Over the past year (July 2017 – present), 54,341 primary school and 6,770 secondary school students have been involved in some fantastic programmes!

Capital Zone Basketball saw 2,500 young people enjoy their Kiwi Hoops basketball programme in school, 1,300 young people attend Kiwi Hoops coaching outside of school hours and 100 new volunteers taking part in KiwiHoops from around the region.

KiwiSport Round 20 – October 2017
In October 2017, seven EOI and one Open Fund applications were received and approved through the KiwiSport Regional Partnership Fund (RPF). Each one of these successful applicants presented programmes that had a goal of engaging school-aged children in quality sporting opportunities across the Wellington Region. Congratulations to the successful applicants, see who they are.

Shift the Trend – the case study
“Her family isn’t really into sports, and at 11 years old she stops going to gymnastics because of the cost. Always picked last for teams, her classmates don’t pass her the ball because they say she can’t catch. She quits PE as soon as she can”.

Celebrating Volunteerism – the value of storytelling

At Volunteering New Zealand's annual conference. One of the excellent presentations touched on the importance of meaningful volunteer acknowledgement.

Understanding volunteer motivations is the starting point for creating meaningful acknowledgement; volunteers want to make an impact and want to see how they have contributed. Capturing these stories that talk about individual success through impact and personal development are great tools for recognition and recruitment.

Physical Literacy
The development of a physcially literate person begins at birth and is a lifelong journey. Sport has a huge part to play in meeting peoples cognitive, spiritual, physcial, social and emotional needs throughout all encounters. Being held on Wednesday 20 June at the TSB Arena on the Wellington waterfront, the sports awards showcases excellence from volunteers through to high performance sport from across the greater Wellington region.
