A Police Community Support Officer funded by Buckhurst Hill Parish Council was introduced to residents at the council's Annual Parish Assembly.
PCSO Kai Farrant will be patrolling the parish council area undertaking high visibility patrols and targeting known crime hotspots, including areas which have seen an increase in burglaries.
He will also meet with local residents and local organisations.
His presence is the result of long-time efforts by the parish council in negotiation with Essex Police.
Parish council chairman councillor Neville Wright said: "It is about the residents and making residents feel safe and reassured. It will be nice for Kai to engage with local residents and the parish council."
Parish council clerk Kevin O'Brien told Thursday's Annual Parish Assembly: "We think this (to employ a dedicated PCSO) is a really, really positive move."
