2018 Emerging City Champions Announced

Congratulations to the twenty community leaders from cities across the United States that have been selected to participate in the 2018 Emerging City Champions fellowship program

The program provides leadership development and funding for young civic innovators with unique solutions to improve public spaces, transportation and civic engagement in their cities. Now in its fourth year, the program is led by 8 80 Cities and funded by the John S. and James. L. Knight Foundation

We'll host the champions this coming June in Toronto to inspire them and help them develop their ideas.

Launch of the Vision Zero Challenge

In Toronto, a pedestrian is seriously injured or killed every 3 days on our roads. Between 2005 and 2016, there were over 2,100 pedestrians killed or injured in traffic collisions. Toronto’s road safety plan, Vision Zero, acknowledges that deaths and serious injuries are preventable and outlines clear priorities to ensure all road users can travel around the city safely.
 
The challenge we face is how to best implement Vision Zero. You can get involved in making Toronto’s streets safer for everyone by signing up for the Vision Zero Challenge for a change to win $10,000 in awards or Attending the launch of the Vision Zero Challenge by City of Toronto and Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship.
