 Kids & Teens Calendar of Events 
Summer Fun for All Ages: Reading Takes You Everywhere!

Kids, Teens and Adults can join the Library’s Reading Takes You Everywhere! Summer Reading Program. The Library offers the Baby & Me Club (birth to 17 months), Read to Me Club (2 to 5 years), Independent Readers Club (kindergarten to grade 5), Teen Club (grades 6 to 12), and Adult Summer Reading for ages 18 and up. Participants of all ages will earn prizes for time spent reading, listening to audiobooks or reading to others and can enjoy a range of free activities and performances.

Sign up at any library location beginning June 9. The Summer Reading Program runs through August 18, 2018. Go to smpl.org for full entry and prize details. Summer Reading is sponsored by the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library.

Experience the unique drumming style of TAIKOPROJECT, a premiere taiko group that unites ancient Japanese tradition with 21st century innovation. Family-friendly crafting follows the performance.


VR Experience: Inside the World of Coco
Tuesday, June 19, 4:00 pm / Ages 13-17

Follow the magical alebrije into the luminous world of Coco, filled with characters and settings from the film! Note: Oculus Rift headsets are for ages 13-17.


Dino Encounters
Monday, June 25, 2:30 pm / Ages 4-11 (Free tickets available at 2:00 pm) / MLK Jr. Auditorium
Learn about the amazing life of dinosaurs, with humor, special effects, audience participation, and several very realistic dinosaur puppets!


Author Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston visited the Library to discuss Farewell to Manzanar, the 2018 Santa Monica Reads Selection.
