The Holy Month of Purusottama
Dear friends,
Hare Krishna.
Today marks the start of the very auspicious month of Purusottama, (16th May 2018 - 13th June 2018), named directly after the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This month appears once every three years. It is considered the adhika-mas, or extra month. For some it is referred to as the mal-mas or the month not suitable for auspicious rituals or ceremonies. However, Sri Krishna has taken shelter in this month. Therefore, this month has the potency to bestow and bless anyone with pure love for the Lord and remove mal - all sin and obstacles on their path of bhakti, devotional service.
The Vaishnava acharyas and teachers proclaim this month to be very special. And this ‘extra’ month is an opportunity for extra spiritual activity – extra chanting of the Lord’s holy names, extra reading and hearing from Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam. Extra service and charity to serve the Lord in the temple is highly recommended as is sharing His message with others by distributing sacred literature and prasada, sanctified food.
For ISKCON Leicester, this month means becoming more attached to Sri Sri Radha Madhava and seeking opportunities to awaken, strengthen and deepen our relationship with Them. Along with the following programme of activities, please try and attend the early morning mangal aarti at 4.30am for a spiritually nourishing start to the day. This happens daily! For the rest of the month, please come and participate in the following:
