The Nordic Affect ensemble is very proud to première two new works by the endlessly surprising composer Jobina Tinnemans on May 24th at Mengi, Reykjavík.
Her fearless approach to writing music makes her one of the hottest commissioned composers on the international New Music scene over the last few years.

With the premièring works ‘Fell’ and ‘Sylt’ Jobina manages to capture her out-of-bounds feral music style onto conventional printed sheets of music paper, yet in such way its liveliness is still jumping off the pages.

According to Tinnemans ‘Fell’ is a sensual piece, singing the song  shifting tectonic plates, weather, snow and ice have carved out for us on the mountains slopes. But to us it's also a delightfully bizarre mixture of pop, medieval and baroque music! 

From the steep altitudes of the fell, the mountains, ’Sylt’ dives into a delicate vast plane of finely tuned sediments that tickle the senses and make you feel alive.
 

Further programmed on this night is a tribute to Jóhann Jóhannsson, which will be the Icelandic premiere of his 'A wheel slowly rolling out of itself' he composed for Nordic Affect, works by Estonian composer Helena Tulve and Georg Kári Vilmarsson. Plus improvisations based on field recordings and photographs by Halla Steinunn Stefánsdóttir.
