#10: A potent virus went around at the NCAA Women's Golf Regional in Austin & it was so bad that ECU didn't have enough healthy student-athletes to compete in the second round of play, which ultimately disqualified the Pirates. Drinking coolers could be the common thread & were removed from the course. Colorado State, Arkansas, Michigan State & Baylor all impacted. (link, link)
#9: Former Maryland AD Anderson heads back west to serve as Interim AD for Cal State Northridge. Per reports, Anderson will not be in the mix for the opening on a permanent basis. The Baltimore Sun's Markus adds, "Sources close to Anderson said that he agreed to a buyout on his $580,000 a year contract, and likely signed a non-disclosure agreement that prevented him from speaking about his situation at Maryland." #8: Texas AD Del Conte communicated more of his vision for the Longhorns during a tour stop in Dallas, says FB game scripts will be simplified & "try to make it all about the band," also speaks of a "carnival experience" around home games, "What are we known for in Austin? Food trucks? Foodies? Beer and wine and have a nice little concert? So we’re going to create all these activities around the game that draws students from west campus and draws fans to come back and say this is the University of Texas." Del Conte also points to changes for in-game music (jokes he thought Migos was a breakfast meal), a review of concession prices & a continued push to upgrade facilities. #7: Richmond AD Hardt introduced this year's Men's LAX NCAA Tourney field as chair of the committee, topped by Maryland, "My takeaway after this year’s selection process is, I think there’s more parity right now on the Division I level than there has been in my time on the committee, and this is my fourth year." Hardt pointed to the oft-used "complete body of work" on why Villanova earned the last spot in the bracket & like other committee chairs also says his group didn't pay any attention to number of bids per conference as the Big East got three & the Big Ten two. Hardt on a bigger field in the future, "As a huge proponent of men’s lacrosse, I think that a bigger bracket would be a better bracket. But I also understand the fiscal realities and the policy implications that the NCAA membership is cognizant of. So I understand that. But if you’re asking for my opinion as a supporter of Division I lacrosse, I’m a huge fan of this sport, and I think a bigger bracket would be better. It would be great." (link)
#6: Iona Prez Nyre introduces Deputy AD Glovaski as the new boss for the Gaels, "Matt Glovaski has been a great ambassador for Iona College and its athletic department during his time in New Rochelle. We look forward to his inspiration, leadership and support for our student-athletes, coaches and administrators and the continuation of the success of Iona Athletics on the field and in the classroom and in the community." Glovaski has worked his way up through the department since 2005, "Some people have really believed in me and provided me the opportunity to get to know all the nuances with running a college athletic department. #5: A potentially scary scene was averted at Missouri State's Hammons Field last week, when Kansas Baseball players reportedly had to restrain a teammate from entering the stands during a scuffle that may have included the parent of a KU player. Video shows Kansas players outside the dugout, but does not appear to show anyone from the KU bench entering the stands. KU Assoc. AD for Public Affairs Marchiony: "You could say that our players were obviously concerned because this was occurring where their parents were sitting. I would say it resolved itself pretty quickly and the Missouri State coach apologized to [KU HC Price] after the game. As far as we’re concerned it’s over." Two MSU fans were ejected. (link)
#4: Oklahoma opened its new Switzer Center to fans & media as FB HC Riley remarks of his spacious office, "I walk in that office every morning and look at what we built and have to pinch myself. I tell recruits, and I mean it, that office is way, way, way too big for me. But it’s very fitting for this program." Former Sooners boss Stoops recalls the state of facilities being subpar when he arrived in Norman, but constant upgrades showed OU's commitment. (link - article, link - Riley's office)

#2: N.C. State has new word marks & a customized Wolfpack front & the release from Raleigh on the development starts with, "Simple. Modern. Bold." Per comments from AD Yow, adidas was involved in the new look, which will be gradually phased in during the 2018-19 competition seasons. Of note, "Research done for the brand positioning more clearly identified the traits of a wolfpack to be incorporated into future uniform and branding campaigns, such as wolves' ferocity in attacking with their fangs, an element factored into the font design." #1: Eye brows raised Thursday on the news that West Virginia & Marshall could receive portions of a reported 0.25% sports gambling integrity fee enacted on outlets taking bets in the state if the Supreme Court ends up allowing states to make their own rules on the highly controversial topic. Overall, it looks like Governor Justice got out over his skis in announcing a deal had been struck. If an agreement does get done, there's the possibility of both institutions receiving more state monies in order to cover additional costs associated with added Compliance & oversight costs to police sports gambling.
