Dear Friend,

We are overwhelmed with gratitude over what has occurred over the past 12 months. Californians Advancing Civic Education was started in 2012 with the goal to provide volunteer and financial support to students in California participating in civic education programs like We The People. This year has been the most successful year we’ve ever had by far.

This April at the We The People National Finals in Washington DC, 53 teams from across the country showed up to participate in one of the most academically rigorous competitions available. After two days of open competition California placed 2 teams in the top 10 for the first time in the 31-year history of the program. Both teams worked closely with CACE from the very beginning of their academic year. Then, after competing on Capitol Hill in the final round, Amador Valley High took an incredible 4th place and Foothill High took home the silver medal.

We are so proud of their achievement. If you donated, volunteered, or otherwise supported CACE, We the People, or these kids over the past year, you should be proud as well. We could not be more thankful to everyone that helped.

Foothill High's and Amador Valley High's 2017-2018 We the People teams.

Here’s what one of the students had to say about your support.:

“To Californians Advancing Civic Education, thank you for all your dedication and hardwork in helping Amador and Foothill succeed in the National stage. In particular, I thank Clint Woods for your incredible advice in tackling the nuanced issues of free speech..., Amiee Kushner for your help in understanding the complex issues of privacy in the digital age, Benjamin Glickman for your constructive criticism and underground newspaper, Vikram Sreekanti for your assistance with technology and corporation issues, Brian Ladd for your humor and love for sports and politics, as well as all fantastic members of CACE for their priceless help during summer sessions and competition preparation sessions in San Francisco!”

-Anirudh Rengerajan, Foothill, Unit 5

As we wind down the academic year, CACE pledges to continue our efforts to support civic education in whatever way we can in the upcoming year. Preparations have already begun to make next year even better. We hope you’ll join us in that journey next year and beyond.

Sincerely,

Clint Woods
