Five New Playground Structures Opening Across City

Niagara Falls, ON, May 29 2018 – The wait is nearly over for hundreds of children and Niagara’s young-at-heart, just in time for summer. The City of Niagara Falls has announced the much awaited ribbon cutting ceremonies for playgrounds at Glenview Park, Stamford Lions Park, Gustavus Munro Park, Westfield Park, Prince Edward Park and the new outdoor fitness equipment at the Millennium Recreational Trail - Niagara Falls Lions Legacy Pathway.

Residents can enter to win a chance to ride the grand opening bus to each of these six ribbon cutting ceremonies with Mayor Diodati by sharing original photos of themselves and their families enjoying City parks and trails via social media using #BeNFPlay.

The ceremonies will take place on Saturday, June 9th at the following locations and times:

10:00 AM - Glenview Park, 4521 Leader Lane
10:45 AM – BONUS Fitness Equipment, north east corner of Thorold Stone Road and Stanley Avenue
11:30 AM - Stamford Lions Park, 3843 Orlando Drive
12:15 PM - Gustavus Munro, 8180 Rideau Street
1:00 PM - Westfield Park, 6983 Warden Avenue
1:45 PM - Prince Edward Park, 5522 Prince Edward Avenue

Free, light refreshments will be provided at each of the ceremonies.
June is Recreation & Parks Month and a COMMUNITY CELEBRATION will take place at Prince Edward Park from 1:45 to 3:45 p.m., with a children’s bouncy castle, face painting, and more.

The playground openings are part of Operation Awesome Playgrounds, an initiative Mayor Jim Diodati announced at his State of the City Address in March of 2017. As part of this initiative, the City’s program to upgrade play structures is being accelerated.

Ten more playgrounds will be replaced this year as Operation Awesome Playgrounds continues. Residents are encouraged to sign up on the City’s online engagement site letstalk.niagarafalls.ca to learn more and share their thoughts.
