QUOTE UNQUOTE

"Preaching about poverty is at the heart of Jesus' preaching. 'Blessed are the poor' is the first beatitude ... The Spirit is upon me, I have been sent to proclaim the Gospel, the Good News, glad tidings to the poor."

— Pope Francis, May 24

Just one minute

Have you ever heard the phrase, "The handwriting on the wall"? Well, it comes from the Book of Daniel Chapter 5 (It is worth reading if you have time today). The king had conquered the Israelite people and taken the sacred vessels as loot from the war. He was using the sacred vessels as dishes to party with. The handwriting on the wall was God's finger pronouncing judgment on the king and his kingdom for his injustice, oppression and sacrilege. As disciples of Jesus, we are called and empowered to work for justice, assist the oppressed and live lives of reverence.

Reflection: Spend some time today visiting with the Lord about where you are called to be active in one of those areas.

— Deacon Danny Hartnedy
