Hi guys!

Just like my last newsletter, this is going to be an extended bullet-point one.  Most important things first - the first one is boring but necessary by law;  the second one is super exciting!

1. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

I am sure that you have all heard of the new legislation related to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

With this in mind, please see our Privacy Policy HERE, which complies with this legislation.  LAWIM only holds personal information like email address, website, name, and surname for the purposes of sending out these newsletters.  If you no longer want me to have access to these details, please unsubscribe from my newsletter HERE.

2. Crafty Crochet Cruise

Super SQEEEE!  I am going to be hosting workshops on a cruise ship in February next year (Auz/NZ).  I will be designing two patterns specifically for the cruise.  When I started this whole crochet journey, I never dreamed that it would give me the opportunities it has.  None of it would have been possible without your support and I cannot thank you enough!  You can read more about the cruise HERE.

3. Boy Crochet Crushes

You know already that I have encouraged (coerced) Mr. Lookatwhatimade to try his hand at crochet - quite successfully, if I do say so myself :)  He is, of course, my biggest boy crochet crush.  You can read my post about this WIP HERE.

I don't believe there is a 'them' and 'us' when it comes to crochet and knitting (we are all yarn siblings), but I do envy the fact that men seem more likely to knit than to crochet.  I know so few male crocheters that I gather them to myself like jewels when I find them.  One of them is John P Kelly who designed the pattern I shared for my first #notacal on Instagram (pattern available HERE on my website).

Since then, I have found two more crochet jewels, and I would like to introduce them to you below.

A Boy and Bunting

The Scheepjes Blogger's Team has recently been joined by Matt Farci.  Not only does he crochet, he also does brilliant video reviews and his site is amazing and airy.  Up until recently, Matt was a singer/dancer in Disney's Musical Tarzan.  If you aren't already familiar with Matt's work, I suggest that you hop along to his site with a good cup of coffee while you browse.  You can read more about Matt HERE.  You can also find him HERE on Instagram (which is where I nabbed this collage from).

Martin Up North

I know very little about Martin, but I do know that I love his work!  I was attracted to Martin's work by his wonderful tapestry crochet and his photos of the aurora borealis* and freezing bubbles (who knew that that was a thing?).

*Ooh, my wandering mind.  I have wanted to see the Northern Lights ever since I binge-listened to Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier as a teenager.  I listened to it so much, in fact, that I can still quote large portions of it 20 years later.  "That's not the Northern lights. That's Manderley!"  Oh, my heart.  I guess I will be digging out my Talking Classics cds tomorrow...

Anyway, back to Martin.  You can find his website and patterns HERE.  You can also find him on Instagram HERE (I nabbed these photos from there too).

He has just finished the Dutch Rose CAL by Cypress Textiles.  Isn't it gorgeous?  Rachele (the genius behind Cypress Textiles) has also launched a Reboot of her very popular VVCAL, which started today!  You can find Week 1 HERE.

4. Yarn 5 Bookazine

I love being part of the Yarn bookazines.  Each issue is more beautifully styled than the last and flicking through these bi-yearly publications is a feast for the eyes and the creative soul.  For the latest issue, I designed an apron in a fusion of sewing and crochet.  I used to sew quite a lot.  In fact, I think my mom taught me to sew before I could properly walk (ok, maybe a minor exaggeration).  I learned on a hand-crank Singer (where is my Singer, Mamma?) which had no reverse, so on those rare occasions when I accidentally got a needle stuck in the tip of my finger, the only alternative was to either cry for my mom to come and sew through it, or to knuckle down and sew through it myself as quickly as I could.  When I moved to England and found crochet, I stopped designing my own sewing patterns; stopped sewing altogether until my mom flew my (formerly her) Bernina over for me when I was having my first child.

It has sat largely unused except for seams, curtains, and adjustments until this project came along.  How do I explain the joy of my hands threading the machine on auto-pilot and the steady hum of it as I made line after straight glorious line?  And then to top it off with a semi-mandala pocket and crochet ties?  If only I had more hours in the day so that I could indulge both these passions!!

My pattern was published in the section 'The Good Wife', and the photo took my breath away.  Don't you just want to be her??

Yarn 5 is available from your local Scheepjes Stockist HERE.  You can see the rest of the projects in this issue HERE on Ravelry.

5. A Simple New Pattern

I will be releasing the pattern for my simple Emma square tomorrow.  I had hoped to do it today, but time and life ran away with me.  The Emma square was designed for the June 2017 Devon Sun Yarns Retreat and was dedicated to my very brave friend Emma.  It forms part of an ongoing series celebrating the friends I have made through crochet.

The great thing about this square is that it is the perfect size for using with the Catona and Stonewashed/Riverwashed XL Cutie Pies.  If you are interested, keep an eye on my website tomorrow :)

6.  Miscellaneous

I really wanted to tell you about our trip to Swanage, Lyme Regis, and Seaton at the beginning of April, but this newsletter is getting long and I want to go cuddle with the boys, so I am just going to tell you that we had a fabulous break (although so many things went wrong) and show you a few photos.

Best bit?  The boys got to spend the day hanging out with horses and miniature horses (one of which has since then given birth) splashing in the mud screaming "This is the best day EVER!".  I cannot thank Louise and Chris enough for this special day.  I would have shared many more photos, but both the LAWIM and Mr. LAWIM phones died early in the day, so the only photos we can share were those taken by our hosts.

Have a spectacular weekend!
