Mr R Mangan,  Principal

Dear Parents, Caregivers & Friends of the College

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Leyton Watson, to the position of Deputy Principal, Junior School, Learning & Achievement.

Leyton is well qualified for this position, with the academic qualification of a Master of Education (1st Class Honours) from Massey University, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education.  He has done an outstanding job in the position of Assistant Principal at Tauranga Boys' College since 2007 with responsibility for Student Management.   Leyton has had a significant influence on the supportive, orderly and caring culture of the College through his leadership of the Student Management Team, with this impacting across our playground and in our classrooms.

Leyton is excited by a broadening of his portfolio to focus on learning and achievement in the Junior School, with a continuation of his influence on the overall culture of the College in his role as Deputy Principal.

Information for Parents
"13 Reasons Why"

Parents may be aware there has been conversation around the release of the second season of "13 Reasons Why" on Netflix on Friday 18th May.  All 13 episodes were available to view at this time and it is possible your son will have watched this series.

I bring this series to your attention due to the nature of the content.  The show was widely watched by teenagers last year.  The themes of suicide, sexual assault, bullying and other issues led to many viewers feeling distressed and in need of support.  It is expected that similar and equally confronting themes will be present in this season.

In order to support parents I share with you links to resources to assist you should they be required.

Tauranga Boys' College Old Boys' Association

The Tauranga Boys’ College Old Boys’ Association began in 2008 when we celebrated our 50th Jubilee. Since that time we have developed an Old Boys' database to which is sent a newsletter every couple of months detailing what is going on at school as well as with our Old Boys scattered all around the globe.  Many of our students have family members who have previously attended Tauranga Boys' College and it would be great to have their details on our Database too. If you are an Old Boy or know Old Boys who are not on our database then please e-mail details to Rob Leslie on r.leslie@tbc.school.nz who is the Staff Representative on the Old Boys Committee.  If you are on Facebook the TBC Old Boys has a page there as well which you may find of interest. These connections are of particular importance this year as we will celebrate our 60th Jubilee with a Weekend of celebrations at Labour Weekend (October 19th to 21st) so please pass on these details to all of your Old Boy mates.
