5th Transnational Access call will be opened on 15 May
Having closed the 4th call for Transnational Access on 15 May, the ERIGrid project is only three months away from opening the 5th call for applications.
The 5th call for applications for the ERIGrid Transnational Access will be opened on 15 August 2018. Researchers and industrial professionals are invited to apply for free-of-charge access to laboratories of ERIGrid partners. Costs of lab operation and support of the hosting staff are free of charge. Users' travel expenses, subsistence and accommodation costs will be reimbursed, subject to ERIGrid rules and regulations.

Register for ERIGrid Summer School at DTU on 27-31 August 2018

On 27-31 August 2018 the Technical University of Denmark will be hosting the ERIGrid Summer School on methods for validation of distributed control strategies via implementation in the physical laboratory. Registration for the Summer School is free of charge.

Coordination and control are critical in the development of future energy networks. However, many promising concepts fail to bridge the gap from theory to practical application. Experience from actual implementation can be crucial in focusing your research and development. Implementation under realistic conditions is crucial for maturing the solutions as well as convincing further stakeholders.

This summer school focuses on methods for validation of distributed control strategies via implementation in the physical laboratory – SYSLAB, one of the ERIGrid laboratories provided for free access.

Components & attributes of all ERIGrid facililties are publicly available
In order to facilitate the holistic testing procedure that is currently being developed in the project, ERIGrid harmonised and publicised component data on the research facilities of each partner. This information is available as a separate subpage "Components & Attributes" under each facility on the Transnational Access page.
This data structure builds on previous work where ERIGrid determined a method for the description of holistic testing scenarios.

The corresponding subpages on each ERIGrid partner provide information on some selected component types and most important data attributes of the selected components:
Educational materials on metrology for smart grids and testing

All materials from the 1st ERIGrid Winter School held on 23-25 January 2018 are available online.

Measurements for smart grid applications are sometimes overlooked and assumed to give the correct answer. On 23-25 January 2018 the University of Strathclyde hosted the 1st ERIGrid Winter School “Metrology for Smart Grid Applications and HIL Testing”. Organised in collaboration with MEAN4SG and the National Physics Laboratory (NPL), the school provided PhD students and young researchers with a mixture of lectures, practical laboratory interactions with ongoing research projects, and a 1-day hands-on laboratory session.

You can find all presentation slides here.

ERIGrid's interview to Impact
Thomas Strasser, ERIGrid coordinator, has recently discussed the project ambitions in an interview to the Impact magazine.

The interview offers an insight into the impact ERIGrid makes in terms of integration and enhancement of the necessary research services for analysing, validating and testing smart grid configurations and solutions. Also provision of free access to major European research centres with outstanding smart grid research infrastructures is another highlighted topic of the article.

Webinar Recording:
ICT Standards for Smart Grids

The recording of the ERIGrid webinar "ICT standards for smart grids: IEC 61850, CIM and their implementation in the ERIGrid project" held on 23 March 2018 is now available here.

This webinar focused on the following topics:

  • ICT interoperability in smart grids
  • IEC 61850 and CIM
  • Open source implementations in the ERIGrid project

and was supported by

  • IEEE IES Technical Committee on Smart Grids (TC-SG)
  • IEEE SMCs Technical Committee Cybernetics for Intelligent Industrial Systems (TC-IIS)

You can find all slides from the webinar presentations here.
ERIGrid at ELECTRA final event
At the final event of the ELECTRA IRP project on 21-22 February 2018, ERIGrid was presented by the project coordinator Thomas Strasser.

The cooperation between ERIGrid and ELECTRA IRP was highlighted with regards to holistic power system validation as the WoC approach and similar concepts can be validated using the procedures developed in ERIGrid.

Another key link between both projects is the Database of DER and Smart Grid Research Infrastructure, which was developed with ELECTRA IRP support and used extensively by users of ERIGrid Transnational Access.
