From the Principal's Desk...

Dear Parents

As you know, the school was evaluated the past couple of weeks by an independent party (IQAA).  A report is being compiled about their outcomes and will be distributed to all stakeholders concerned on receipt.

I met with the key mentor yesterday and must say that the findings are quite accurate.  The report will serve as a basis to continue excellence as well as serve as a guideline to improve shortfalls.
It is an exciting time as Blouberg International School will participate in our first InterSEK next week.  I will be travelling with a group of ten students tomorrow morning.  The students and Mr Radnitz have worked diligently on the cultural tasks.  These tasks will be presented in Budapest.  We are all looking forward to representing our school and our country abroad.

The positive feedback received from parents and grandparents was greatly appreciated and valued.   It was such a great treasure to see how our grandparents and special people thoroughly enjoyed their day at our school. Our children are taught from one generation to the other and what they gain is eternally beneficial.  Additionally, each generation plays a role in helping to build a solid foundation for our children, to build character and in turn, creates adults who are able to walk with integrity, discipline and courage.  There is no greater inheritance then to be able to pass on these instrumental values.

I trust that you will have an amazing weekend and are able to have quality time with your family.

Best regards
Edna

Reptile week in Pre-Reception class

The Pre-Reception class had a wonderful week learning about reptiles. The Reptile man came to visit us and the children had a chance to see and touch various types of reptiles.

We saw lots of snakes, lizards, turtles and a komodo dragon. The children enjoyed holding the snake and learning about the reptiles.

It was a fantastic learning experience for all of the children.

*Fallen Angels Fun Run/Walk*

Fun Run/Walk for Fallen Angels
Blouberg International School proudly supports various charities in our local community. We do this because we know how important it is to care about others and help where we can.  Over the years, teachers, as well as students have been involved with Fallen Angels Pet Rescue.

We would like to invite all parents, students and teachers to support the fun run/walk at Fallen Angels Pet Rescue on 2 June 2018 hosted by Ian Martincich (brother of Mrs Amanda Hack, Year 6 teacher). There will be a 4km and 7km option on a very flat gravel road.

The cost is only R60pp. You can even walk some of the doggies at the shelter on the day!

The objective of this day is to raise much needed funds for Fallen Angels to help cover their veterinary expenses, maintain their current structures, and build upgraded wards for their animals (such as isolation wards for sick animals). All of the proceeds from this event will go to Fallen Angels.

On 9 June, Ian will attempt to run the Comrades twice in 24 hours. This is such a challenge and we hope that everyone will supprt him. The basic idea is to start at 17h30 on Saturday in Durban and run to the official start in PMB at 05h30 thereupon running to the finish in Durban and hopefully making cut off at 17h30.

In doing this, Ian hopes to raise awareness and funds for
Fallen Angels Pet Rescue. Animals have always been very close to his heart as they cannot speak for themselves.  Fallen Angels Pet Rescue is a registered NPO (NPO 175-638) focusing on the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of neglected or abandoned animals

Weird and Wonderful Creatures From the Land Down Under

In History and Geography this term, the Year 3's have been studying Australia. Their project for the term was to present an oral on an indigenous Australian animal. The children were full of excitement and giggles as they drew their animal name out of a hat. Their responses ranged from happy cheer to puzzled faces and funny attempts at pronouncing animals such as the 'Dugong', the 'Quoll' and the 'Quokka.’

Last Friday, 18 May the children presented their orals to their classmates and I must say that we were all  very impressed by their presentations. They showed confidence, kept their audience entertained and engaged with their interesting facts.

Well done on your hard work, Year 3's!

HOUSE MUSIC FESTIVAL AT GRANTHAM PREP

Music filled the school last Friday, when children from Reception to Class 6 – many performing two or three different skills, represented their house in our annual music festival.  The Infant children began the festival in the morning, setting a high standard for the older children to follow. The eagerly anticipated "House Shout" followed, which included every single member of the school community including the teachers.  Throughout the day there were some wonderful performances from many children, making the job for our adjudicator, Mrs Laura Gardiner, incredibly difficult.

Mrs Gardiner was entertained by many of the performances and was very impressed with the confidence and dedication of our students.

A huge well done to everyone who took part, and a thank you to all the teachers and parents for their support – such wonderful levels of performance don’t happen without practice.  Thank you also to Mrs Jarvis who accompanied many children throughout the day.

PREPARING OUR ATHLETES

Last weekend, our students from first to fourth grade had their first experience in a mini-athletic event. This competition was developed at Colegio Mayor located in Peñalolén. The main purpose of this encounter was to prepare our athletes for the mini-athletic championship that will take place in October.

As the Physical Education and Sports Department, we are very pleased to participate in these activities in which our students can develop their sports and socials skill, as well as enjoy themselves.
