Brainerd Public Library Presents...
Reading Takes You Everywhere!


Launch your best summer ever! We’ve got great travel plans for the Brainerd Public Library’s 2018 Summer Reading Program. Readers from babies to teens will celebrate our theme: Reading Takes You Everywhere.
The Summer Reading Program is simple: You read books or have books read to you to earn prizes! Program registration begins on June 1st and you have until August 1st to collect your prizes. Just stop by the library to sign up for the summer reading program. As always, library programs are FREE!

Songwriter Zach Johnson* -

Join Zach Johnson for an exciting one man concert and talk about the different instruments he plays and being a popular Minnesota Singer and Songwriter. Don't miss this energetic program. No registration necessary for this free program for all ages.
 Crow Wing County Master Gardener Class - Tuesday, June 12 @ 12 noon - Hostas: From Minis to Giants with Jennifer Knutson** - Hostas are the stars of the shade garden and range in size from miniature to giant. We will discuss best practices for planting, care, pest resistance and other factors important to the success of growing hostas in your landscape. See the full 2018 gardening presentation schedule here. Registration requested online or by calling the library: 218-829-5574.
Brainerd Adult Book Club - Wednesday, June 13 @ 1pm - We'll be discussing Plague of Doves by Louise Erdrich. Unaware of a violent event that marked the beginning of her mixed ancestry, ambitious young Evelina Harp, a part-Ojibwe, part-white girl prone to falling hopelessly in love, learns disturbing truths from her gifted storyteller grandfather, while a sentimental judge weighs the legacy of a century-old crime as reflected by his own love life. Family Book Club

Wednesday, June 13 @ 4pm - June's selection is Gregor The Overlander. Join us to discuss this book, ideal for kids ages 8-12. Copies of the book are available at the front desk. No sign up needed.

Books Burgers & Brews book club will meet on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 6pm at Prairie Bay Grill for our next book discussion of Enchanted Islands by Allison Amend and enjoy a custom food and drink menu created just for us! (Click here to RSVP, limited to 65 people)
Friends of the Library Children's Used Book Sale - Monday, June 18 and Tuesday June 19 - Stock up on great children's and teen books. The sale will be at the Library from 3pm to 6pm on Monday and 9am to 2pm on Tuesday. Support the Friends of the Library and build your family's book collection.

Computer Classes

If you are new to computers, haven't used them for a while, are a little unsure and uncomfortable, or just need a bit of a refresher, we have the tools to help you tackle technology at your own pace and gain the confidence you need to succeed. All classes taught using computers equipped with Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2013, unless otherwise noted. Class size limited to 10 students.

Tuesday, June 5, 1:00-3:00pm
Windows 10 Part 1 - See the changes from earlier versions to the new Windows 10, including new menus and settings. Familiartiy with previous versions of Windows required. Register here.


Tuesday, June 19, 1:00-3:00pm
Windows 10 Part 2
 - Learn about the Microsoft Edge browser and OneDrive cloud storage service. Ability to use mouse and keyboard, and familiarity with previous versions of Windows required. Register here.
 
Wednesday, June 27, 9:30-11:30am
Intro to Android tablets and phones - Bring your Android phone or tablet and learn how to install and use apps, change settings, and protect your privacy. Devices are not provided. No experience needed. Register here.

Brown Bag Author Series

Join the Friends of the Brainerd Public Library each Monday in June for an author talk. No registration necessary, just bring a sack lunch or enjoy the light refreshments provided.

3D Pen Creations – Tuesday, June 26 @ 3:30pm – Draw up in the air using our 3D pens! Use templates or your imagination. What will you create? For newbies. Ages 8-12, limit 10. Call 218-829-5574 or register online.
 
*Kitchigami Regional Library's Legacy Fund Events are funded by the Legacy Amendment which dedicates monies to preserve Minnesota arts and cultural heritage.
