Dear Students, Families, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of ASB School,

Here we are – last week of school! What a wonderful year it has been at ASB.  We’ve had so many incarnational moments that have brought laughter, joy, and love to the students, staff, families, and friends of our school.  Thank you to each and every one of you for making this year such a fantastic one.  We hope you will join us in Assumption Church at 10:30 on Friday for our end of year mass and to celebrate a wonderful year.

Congratulations to our class of 2018! We had a terrific celebration at our farewell assembly yesterday and today they officially graduate.  We know they will continue to make us proud and take with them the many lessons they have learned here at ASB.  Go Bulldogs!

As we head into summer, I am happy to announce we have some new people joining our team.  Please help me welcome…

  • Mrs. Kristi Beiter – Kristi, mother of Cole and Lily, will be joining Annie Hawksford in KB as our new kindergarten aide.  Kristi has been a treasured substitute over the last few years and we are excited she will be full-time next year.  She knows the program and routine and will be a delightful addition to our kindergarten team!

  • Mrs. Kelli Abdo – Kelli comes to us from Children’s Hospital and is excited to make a career change this coming year.  She will be joining Caitlin Dietz in 2B as the instructional aide.  Rachel Zolotusky will be moving from 2B to 2A and join Lindsay Williams.  We are excited about this second grade team!

  • Mrs. Courtney Barker – Courtney and her family recently moved from Texas and joined the ASB community.  Courtney will be assuming the position of Development Director. She was formerly the President & Executive Director of Ballet San Antonio, in San Antonio, Texas. During her tenure, she was able to transform the company into a premier and nationally recognized arts organization.  Courtney developed and led the vision and strategy for the organization, produced new initiatives and programs, and significantly increased operational funding.   Additionally, she created and implemented a development plan to cultivate and secure individual donors, as well as corporate and foundation support.  After her time at Ballet San Antonio, she was then asked by the San Antonio City Manager to act as a consultant for the Department of Arts and Culture where she prepared and delivered strategic recommendations and was able to assist in creating a new strategic plan for the department.  Educated in, and a passionate believer of the Catholic School system, Courtney is excited to join the staff and bring her development skills to ASB!

  • Mr. Pat Briardy – I am excited to have Pat join us next year as one of our new eighth grade teachers.  Pat brings two Master’s degrees, twenty-two years of middle school teaching experience, and a strong commitment to Catholic education.  His expertise, passion for learning, and breadth of knowledge will be great assets to our eighth grade students and families.  Welcome, Pat!

As we head into summer, I want to say that I am filled with genuine gratitude for each member of our community – our students, our faculty and staff, our parents, our alumni and alumni families, our parishioners, and our friends.  Your dedication and commitment to the mission of Assumption-St. Bridget School is inspiring.  I have great hope for the future and look forward to seeing everyone soon.  May your summer be filled with joy, relaxation, and rejuvenation with your families and friends, who show each of us the love of Christ in our lives each day.

With immense gratitude,

Kathleen

ASB Crossing Guard Judy Matheson is retiring!

ASB School would like to thank Judy Matheson for all that she has done for ASB School.  Each morning and afternoon as our students travel to and from their homes Judy has been a friendly face keeping all of our families safe.  We do not know what we are going to do next year without Judy.  Her dedication to ASB School, and her husband Robert's before her have been a fixture at ASB for over 20 years.   Thank you Judy!

Art Parents
If you're a parent in grades K through 5, hopefully you saw the stunning fashion illustrations that came home with your child this month. The illustrations were created as part of the ASB Art Parents program. This year, Art Parents brought six dynamic projects to the classroom. Students learned about:
  • Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama
  • street art
  • Northwest tribal art
  • American artist Sol Lewitt
  • the still life genre, and
  • fashion illustration.

Art Parents wouldn't be possible without the enthusiasm of easily more than 100 volunteers. We would especially like to thank our project leads:

Heather O'Mahony, Jen Hieger, Darcy Sera, Eryn Volpone, Trina Kelly and Jen Yerkes
and our grade level coordinators:
Darcy Sera, Erica Simonds, Rachel Blake, Meredith Davis, Gina Cox and Jessika Horn.

Thank you for supporting all our young artists!

Parents - you are our #1 trusted source for information!

Thank you for helping us spread the word about ASB School.

How does a person become Catholic?
Do you know someone who is interested in learning more about what Catholics believe? Someone who is considering the possibility of becoming Catholic?  The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a great place to start! It is the process by which individuals can ask questions, grow in their faith, and deepen their understanding of Christ and the Church. RCIA classes will be held at St. Bridget on Sunday mornings and at Assumption on Wednesday evenings beginning this fall, but summer is a great time to read, pray, and prepare – and we can give you resources to do that!

Anyone interested in St. Bridget for  this process is invited to contact
Carla Loucks at 206-523-9760 or carla@stbrigetchurch.org

If you are interested in Assumption Parish please contact
Ellen Bollard at bollardeg@aol.com
Thank you!

Junior Sous is about inspiring and educating a new generation of young chefs. We want to help teach children that "healthy" isn't boring or lacking in flavor. We are passionate about making healthy food fun and approachable to people of all ages, but especially children. While participating in a cooking class your child will have the opportunity to try new foods in a fun environment with the support and encouragement of peers. Creating a dish from scratch is an engaging way for children to participate in their own nutrition and adds interest in trying new foods. For more information click HERE
