IN THE LOOP NEWS FROM THE KAIN FOUNDATION

The Kain Foundation believes in opportunity.  We exist to enrich lives.
We're in the wrong hemisphere for April showers to lead to May flowers, but it feels like spring with all the new activity here at Kain Foundation.
In this edition we feature celebrate National Volunteer Week and our newest Northern Opportunities Scholarship winners, we invite you to be part of our Unite in Uganda immersion trip and to support our projects through ordering some great SA wines and beers.  We also feature a blog post about the challenges kids face when they don't go to school.
Still time to register for Unite in Uganda
Our next Uganda immersion trip is on 11-18 August.  For the first time, those who want to invest themselves and/or fundraise to support our Uganda youth programs are eligible to be part of this trip.  This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for those who are looking to shift something in their own lives whilst supporting communities who are lifting themselves out of poverty.  Download the info packet today.
Halpin Financial Services Wine Drive
Over the last few years, three of Halpin Financial Services' team members have volunteered their time to visit Uganda and help with the Uganda project. This year they are also volunteering for our Northern Opportunities initiative to provide educational and employment support for at-risk youth from the northern suburbs of Adelaide.  Last month we shared their Entertainment Membership drive, this month they're running a wine/beer drive with great prices on some fantastic SA brands.  Hurry, orders close 30-May.
Northern Opportunities Scholarship Winners
On 24-May, we are honored to represent all the investors in Kain Foundation's Northern Opportunities project by handing our 10 scholarship certificates at the next Youth Opportunities scholarship reception.  These 10 students from Playford, Woodville, Craigmore and Paralowie applied and have been awarded scholarships for laptops, arts supplies, tutoring, career guidance. Each award is tailored to the individual student based on their application and career goal.
What happens when kids miss school
We encourage you to read our guest blogger Meena's latest story exploring the impacts of what happens when kids are frequently absent from school.  She explores 8 consequences ranging from lower academic and social skills, adverse impacts on future employment, and poorer health.  Read the full list here.  Sobering information and keeps us inspired to continue our work on youth education and employment programs.

We are proud to offer businesses the chance to volunteer in a way that suits their company culture and maximises the value of volunteering time.  During this National Volunteer Week, we recognise and thank all our volunteers for making our work possible and enriching our lives and the lives of young people.
