Hospital staff up for National Award

Many congratulations to the diabetes and mental health team at West Herts Hospitals Trust & Herts Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust on being shortlisted for the prestigious Parliamentary Awards to mark the 70th birthday of the NHS.

I nominated these teams because I have seen real improvements to services locally. These will ultimately lead to better access to care and a better quality of life for people coping with both diabetes and mental health conditions

Evening Tours of Parliament

As always, I thoroughly enjoyed welcoming 60 local residents (including a 15-week old baby, also called Richard!) to Parliament for a tour and Q&A.

We looked around the House of Commons and House of Lords, including St Stephen's Hall and Westminster Hall. Beforehand, we had a chat about my role as the MP and local issues.

I organise regular tours of Parliament for Watford residents so please get in touch if you'd like to book onto the next one.

Stem Cell Donation- You can save lives

I recently met a local family where a young boy has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). Despite being treated with chemotherapy since his diagnosis, his best chance of survival is a blood stem cell donation from a matching donor. However, this search is made more difficult due to his South Asian heritage; they are three times less likely to find a perfect match. That's why I want to encourage more stem cell donor registration across ethnic communities so that we can save lives.

You can register to become a donor with the Anthony Nolan charity if you are aged between 16-30, and more information about how to do this can be found on their website: www.anthonynolan.org
