May 2018
On Thursday 10 May 2018 we invited the public to a talk on the benefits of advance care planning at our office in Knysna. Advanced care planning is making decisions about the care you would want to receive if you become unable to speak for yourself. These are your decisions to make, regardless of what you choose for your care, and the decisions are based on your personal values, preferences, and discussions with your loved ones.We hope that those who attended are feeling better equipped to make these important life decisions.
DONOR CLUB DRAW - 1st QUARTER
Peter Morse of the Garden Route Motor Club drew the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in Knysna Sedgefield Hospice’s first quarterly Donor Club draw done on Monday 16 April on Leisure Isle. Sue Oosthuizen won the 1st prize of R9015, Johan Dries won the 2nd prize of R3756.25 and Brian Robinson won the 3rd prize of R2253.75. Mr Morse came as a representative of the Garden Route Motor Club and he is also on the organising committee for the upcoming seventh Knysna Motor show on Sunday 29th April 2018 which hosts some of the most collectible cars on the African Continent. Knysna Sedgefield Hospice is one of the grateful beneficiaries of the proceeds of the Knysna Motor Show, which helps them to continue to offer the quality five star care and support that they do to the local community, at no cost to the patient, or their family.

  • the homes visited now extend on either side of Knysna and Sedgefield from Wilderness up to Harkerville. Travelling an average of 11,000 kms per month.
  • care and support for not only for cancer but also for HIV/AIDS, TB, motor neuron, end stage organ failure, cardiac disease, multiple sclerosis, uncontrolled diabetes, stroke etc

It was such a privilege to be able to sit so close to the dancers that you can hear their pointe shoes squeak! Don't miss out on the opportunity to enjoy this unique experience next year!
Eva Annen, a practicing ICU physician in Switzerland, volunteered for us for us for 2 months while between jobs back home. Here she is photographed with Gwen Stroebel, one of our Social Auxilliary Workers who she worked closely with while here.
