Flowers for 8th Grade Commencement

Traditionally, the WSA community has donated flowers to use in decorating the Sanctuary and Hazelwood Hall for the 8th grade commencement celebration. Sticking with tradition, we ask that you consider donating flowers from your garden.  On the last day of school (Thursday, May 31st) containers of water will be available inside the Reception office of the Education building in which to place the cut flowers.  Hydrangeas are especially welcome!
The Eighth Grade appreciates your support.

Assembly Overflow Parking

Overflow parking is available in the Inman Drive lot of the Columbia Theological Seminary for our final assembly on Thursday, May 31.

Media-Lite Living

Summer has great opportunities to play and engage in media-free recreation.
What are your family's favorites?  Backyard barbecue? Frisbee at the park? local creek walk?  harvesting from your garden?  making a batch of fresh pesto? road trip to the beach?  Can music and radio time in the car be interspersed with the joys of backseat read a book aloud? Singing together? Playing the alphabet game on the highway?  Media-Lite Living encourages us all to share ideas, create media-free play dates and network on spreading the joys of summer time media-free recreation!  Have ideas?  We can include them in next week's Breeze Bulletin:
Just email: samichelson@gmail.com

Yearbooks

Yearbooks are here and will be distributed today.  The cost of the yearbook is built into student fees collected with tuition, so every student will receive one.

Farewell from Ms. Hendrix

Dear beloved community,

This is my fond farewell and expression of gratitude for so many years of so much goodness and love. Thank you for the privilege of watching over your sweet children and for the inspiration of devoted, loving parents.  I leave with a treasure trove of sweet memories and a full heart.  So much to be grateful for - endless amusing kid stories, little hands in mine, gifts of wilted flowers, squished berries, worms, drawings, giggles and hugs. And of course the perennial Waldorf child gift of utmost love and devotion - a rock and a stick.   For a thousand and one versions of "why did the chicken cross the road?"  For a thoroughly well-developed immune system. For the time I face planted in the classroom, and it really hurt, and the children came running over to fetch me a healing cloth and looked with concern until I felt better.  The fall didn't make me cry, but that did.  For the time a child asked me if I was a witch (it was a particularly frizzy hair day).  For my favorite conversation ever - it went like this, "Ms. Hendrix, is it today or is it yesterday?” Me: “Well dear, it’s today.” Child: “Oh good, because I thought it was yesterday.” I have been Ms. Henrix, Ms. Hengrix and an amalgam of myself and Ms. Hambrick - they just settled on Ms. Hambrix for both of us. I have been loved and I have been taught about love, and I leave knowing that the heart's capacity to love and cherish and be touched by others, especially children, is simply exponential.  Thank you for this priceless gift.

All of my love  - Jill (Hendrix)

Farewell Rhonda Wildman

We bid a fond farewell to our Marketing Coordinator,  Rhonda Wildman.
Rhonda first came to WSA in January 2005 as a parent in our Morning Garden program.  When her daughter joined our Preschool program, Rhonda became an active school volunteer.  In December 2009 she began working on WSA Event PR as a freelance employee.  In November 2014 she joined the administrative staff as our Marketing Coordinator.

Rhonda has accepted a new position in April that required her to begin work right away.  For the past 5 weeks, she has been juggling both jobs! Thanks for keeping the Breeze blowing through June, Rhonda!

We wish her every success….

Farewell Ms. Hulme

Emma Hulme, my dear Kindergarten Teacher Assistant, has decided to leave and travel the world! (Or maybe just the States :)  She has been such a wonderful addition to the Kindergarten's starting with the Afternoon Kindergarten program last year with Ms. Gabriela.  She came to me this year and jumped right in.  A Waldorf graduate through and through, she cooks like a chef, and draws and paints like a true artist, and can hold the children with such love and calm. She is truly loved by all the children and will be very missed by all!   But she promised to come visit us! We love you Ms. Hulme!

from Ms. Lisa Knight

Academe of the Oaks News

Theater
We love our theatrical and dramatic performance program at Academe. It is an excellent example of our project based learning and collaboration. The student learns to take on another persona which asks for braveness and letting go of normal routines for a moment. It trains leadership and speaking skills and it shows that each single student is responsible for the success of the whole. Each student fills multiple roles-as actor, stage manager, set designer, carpenter, painter, lighting or sound technician, wardrobe manager, or property manager.  And in addition we offer improvisation as an elective and drama club for interested students.
