Last Minute Sewing

Hello! What a week... a royal wedding and I'm not sure how but this week I've managed to get ill. So I've spent the weekend feeling a little bit sorry for myself. Some positives are that while ill you have about an hour's window when your medicine is at its peak and everything feels fine. So in those times I've squeezed in a little bit of sewing

Me Made May has been a great exercise for seeing what is in my wardrobe, what I have and haven't been wearing. But what I've realised is that I do actually wear my makes, a lot! So as we reach the end of May I'm getting a bit bored of my wardrobe, everything has been worn to death and I'm itching for something new to wear. This is a perfectly timed feeling because on Saturday I'm off to New York for a week and we all know that everyone loves some new items to take away with them as part of their holiday wardrobe.

So I've been squeezing in some makes to take away with me. I'm no capsule wardrobe traveler. I like a different outfit for every day I'm away and sometimes depending on the day. what I'm doing and where I am, I like to try and squeeze in two outfits.

But when sewing for a holiday how do you stop yourself getting carried away? How do you make sure that the things you make for a city or country you're about to spend a short amount of time in, still work for when you return the the country you're stuck with? Luckily for me, my wardrobe for New York will definitely work for my life in London but it can be easy to carried away and make things you wear once when you're away and wouldn't dare be brave enough to wear on a run to the supermarket.

For me the things I make should already be on my list of makes. Holiday or not, would you wear this at home? But aside from whether you would wear it, do you need it? Yes, having something new in your wardrobe to go away with is great but are there things that you could already take. Yes you might be going away for a week but do you really need seven new outfits to go away with? Probably not.

As I sign off this newsletter to whip up another make, perhaps I'm not following this quite to a tee. But I'm safe in the knowledge that everything I am making will get lots of wear once I'm back. So why not have fun and make some things to take away with me?

Have a great week!
