What's next for you?

"The days are long but the years are short."

Gretchin Rubin made this statement in her book "The Happiness Project", and I think we can all agree that it's true.  Time seems to fly by - already we're almost half-way through 2018.

I like to keep a close eye on my goals because I'm easily distracted by new ideas.  Knowing that 2018 is nearing the halfway point, I've started to look at what I've accomplished and what I still want to do.

It can seem overwhelming to do a half-year review, especially when the nice weather is calling you to be outside.  However, summer will pass and it will be September, and by then - I'm sorry to say - you'll be thinking about 2019.

So how do you take the next step to fulfill your dreams?

It's so easy to just let the days and months flow past, but I believe you want more.  There's a voice inside asking, "What else? Where to from here?"  When that voice speaks, you have to take some time to listen hard to your mind and your heart.  Sit down with a cold glass of something and make some notes.  Don't worry if the ideas seem crazy - write them down!  Sort out the possibilities later.  This is the time for you to dream.

Some questions to guide your thoughts:
  • What have I already accomplished this year?
  • What ideas really get me excited and energized?
  • Who do I want to be this year?  Next year?
  • What idea keeps circling in my mind?
  • What would I like more of in my life?
  • What gift do I have that I could share with others?
I fulfilled one of my dreams last month by successfully hosting my first yoga retreat for women.  When I first started dreaming about that retreat, it seemed like a crazy idea.  But once I made a plan, it all came together.  It's OK to start small - in fact, I think you should start small.  Give yourself a win, build your confidence and learn, and then make the goal bigger.

So here we are, in the middle of 2018.  How do you find your way forward?  Pick one dream or idea, and start finding small ways to make it happen.  Every day spend time visualizing the dream becoming reality.  Tell people about your dream so it becomes more real.  Spend time working on it every day.  Find an object or a picture that symbolizes your dream and put it somewhere that you see it often.

Don't let the rest of this year pass you by.  Stay awake, stay engaged in your life, and start thinking BIG about what's coming next.
