CELEBRATING LIFE

Sunday, June 3 marks the annual National Cancer Survivors Day. It's a day to celebrate life and to raise awareness about the many challenges faced by cancer survivors. At Growing Bolder, we've had the great privilege to share many of these incredible survivors' stories of Surviving & Thriving. No two cancer experiences are the same, and we can all learn valuable lessons from each person, whether we ever face cancer or not.

We never fail to be inspired by these incredible men, women and children who know life is worth fighting for, no matter how tough the road can be. One common thread seems to run through their stories -- many times, life after cancer, even with its challenges, can be as good as life before cancer, or in some cases, even better. Cancer seems to have this ability to help people focus on the things that really matter in life and to move forward with a bold passion for enjoying the gift of every moment. Don't take our word for it. Let the stories below inspire you as you face your own challenges and join us in celebrating these cancer warriors this weekend and beyond.
Jeremy Jungling was a newlywed, running coach and in the best shape of his life when he learned he had colon cancer. He was stunned. See how his mantra of relentless forward progress kept him running toward his future.
Susan Helmrich is one of the best swimmers in the world in her age group. She’s also a three-time cancer survivor and a victim of one of the greatest drug tragedies in history.
Rocker Melissa Etheridge says her 2004 breast cancer diagnosis set her on a path of discovery, wellness and empowerment she never could have imagined. She tells us how cancer inspired her to change everything in her life, for the better.
At the age of 14, Benji Watson was diagnosed with cancer. His first words to his family? "Then I'm going to be a cancer survivor." Now a young adult, he's not only survived, he's made it his mission to help other kids like him thrive in the aftermath.
Meet even more incredible cancer survivors and let their stories inspire you to keep fighting.
Our Wendy Chioji has been living with cancer since 2001. After surviving breast cancer, years later she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer with few treatment options. That set her on a course of discovery, experimentation with clinical trials and a renewed commitment to JUST SAY YES to life's adventures. She blogs regularly about her journey. Follow along.
More than a film, Conquering Kilimanjaro is an inspirational shout out to cancer survivors everywhere that celebrates the power of love and the irrepressible nature of the human spirit. This Emmy® nominated feature-length documentary follows a group of cancer survivors and warriors on their life-changing attempt to climb Tanzania's Mt. Kilimanjaro, the world's highest freestanding mountain at 19,341 feet.
