May Allotment Update
Welcome to our May news-letter, sent whilst enjoying the glorious weather we are having. Enjoy it while it lasts!
May committee meeting
The minutes for our May committee meeting are now on our website.
Cake and working hard
We had our inaugural coffee and cake morning as well as our first working party of the year. Thank you to everyone who organised and took part! If you missed this one, there will be many more to come.
We need your help this Saturday, just for an hour! As you may know, the working party cleared a load of rubbish off plot 13. The rubbish is currently piled up at the end of the plot and we are getting a skip delivered to put it all in. Please come down and help us from 9:30 this Saturday to quickly load the rubbish in the skip. It won't take long if a bunch of you are able to help.
Use of the skip
We have deliberately hired a skip that is bigger than what we need and are opening it up to all allotment holders this weekend, so this is your chance to clear old rubbish off your plot. Please just wait until after the "official" clearing operation has finished clearing the stuff from plot 13.
It shouldn't need saying, but the use of the skip is on a first come basis; if the skip is full by the time you get there, please don't leave your rubbish next to it for someone else to clear away.
Communal Compost Heap
We have a communal compost heap on plot 30 that all plot holders are welcome to use. There have been some conflicting messages and signs, but we are keeping the heap open for everyone's use for the time being. However, please be considerate and only put easily compostable materials on there, such as soft greens or chopped up brown stuff. If we get too much rubbish and big/hard stuff on there it won't function properly and we'll end up having to get rid of it, which would be a great shame (not to mention a lot of hard work for someone).
Open Gardens
It's the Chinnor Open Gardens weekend on 2nd and 3rd June and the Allotments are taking part so expect strangers to be wandering through between 1 and 6 PM weekend after next. If anyone asks you about how to join, please point them to the website (caga.org.uk), Facebook or tell them email plots@caga.org.uk.
Chinnor Flower and Produce Show
Every year the Chinnor Flower and Produce Show gets bigger and better. It may not have crossed your mind to enter anything into it, but it's actually a really friendly and fun event, so why not give it a go this year? Unlike some shows, this one also allows very late entries, right up to the morning of the show so you don't need to be planning months in advance. If something is looking particularly nice on the weekend of the show, just pop down with a late entry. Who knows, you might even win!
