Summer Reading Program Kickoff Wed, June 20 | 1-4 pm All ages. Drop in. Come celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of the “Reading Takes You Everywhere” Summer Reading Program. Kids can make crafts and get glitter tattoos and balloon animals while adults sign-up the whole family for summer reading! This summer we have programs for all ages: youth, teens, and adults. And you don't have to wait until June 20 to register. You can sign up anytime you are in the library starting June 1.
Living With Wildlife Wed, June 13 | 7 pm Adults. Registration required. Sometimes it's tough to share your garden, your home and your landscape with the abundant wildlife that also call Northern Virginia home. This program will explore the many human-wildlife conflicts that we encounter and help you to understand more about avoiding illegal, unnecessary and dangerous control tactics. Covers Virginia laws about wildlife management tactics that will enable you to either attract wildlife or repel unwanted vertebrate creatures from our gardens. On Saturday, June 16, at 3 pm, the Mary Riley Styles Public Library will host a free public screening of the recently released documentary, Josiah: The Story That Sparked the Civil War. Narrated by actor Danny Glover and directed by Jared A. Broch, Josiah explores the life and impact of Josiah Henson, who inspired the main character in Harriet Beecher Stowe's controversial 1852 novel Uncle Tom's Cabin.

End of Life Planning for You or a Loved One: A Practical Guide to Emotional and Financial Well-being Tue, June 19 | 7 pm Adults. Registration required. Thoughtful end-of-life planning can ensure that you minimize confusion and clearly communicate your wishes legally and to your family. This program, presented by grief therapist Sarah Brooks and attorney Emily Halm Jenkins, will present strategies for starting an open conversation with your family members about your healthcare wishes and discuss practical tips on managing your legal affairs.
