Call for ASH Valorisation award
We invite you to submit (self-)nominations of highly deserving valorisation projects for the ASH Valorisation Award (250 euros). The winner of the award will be announced during the ASH End of Term Event on Monday 2 July (17:00).
These valorisation projects should have been delivered between May 2017 and May 2018, and can range from a public lecture, newspaper article, to an exhibition or TV-appearance. Please submit your nominations no later than 15 June 2018, 11 am, to ash-fgw@uva.nl.

Remieg Aerts’ new book Thorbecke wil het is a biography about Johan Rudolf Thorbecke. Thorbecke wil het. Biografie van een staatsman is written with support of the KNAW Fund Staatsman Thorbecke and is presented in the Dutch Parliament on 22 May. Read more (in Dutch)

ASH Call for Workshop Proposals 2018
ASH invites proposals from ASH PhD candidates (at any stage of their PhD)  to organise an activity (taking the form of a workshop, masterclass, etc.) that will benefit their research and help expand their network. Ideally, this activity will be organised by more than one ASH PhD candidate, but individually organised initiatives will also be supported.

Workshop Workshop encryption – Getting started

The UvA Library will organize workshops on encryption and how it can be used to secure research data. During this workshop you will get a basic understanding of what encryption is and when and why (or why not) to use this method for securing your data. The workshop will be hands on, and there will be time to practice with encryption software and related software like password managers. Read more

Gendering sacred space: female networks, patronage and ritual experience in early Christian pilgrimage. Many of the earliest Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land were women. Their stories survive to this day, but scholars have so far not considered how their gender shaped their experiences. How did women perform pilgrimage and experience their encounters with the sacred in the Early Christian centuries? Read more

Workshop Convivencia Debates

Convivencia Debates: Issues and Methods in the Study of the History of interreligious contact in Medieval and Early Modern Iberia.
The term Convivencia has been a contentious term in Iberian historiography used to describe the period in Muslim and Christian medieval rule when the three Abrahamic Faiths are said to have co-existed peacefully. At this workshop, organised by the Amsterdam School of Historical Studies and the Netherlands Interuniversity School for Islamic Studies (NISIS), the use of the term will be discussed by several lecturers. Workshop Grasping Kairos
14-15 June University Library Potgieterzaak
This two-day workshop creates a platform for a transhistorical, interdisciplinary discussion of kairos, the idea of momentary time.
During the workshop, an international group of scholars from classics, history, literature, art history, and philosophy will offer analyses and explorations of the significance of kairos in a range of contexts. These include the development of kairos as a specifically political skill in antiquity; the female kairos of the Italian Renaissance; the essentiality of kairos to early modern English political thought; rhetorical notions of kairos in early modern English devotional literature; kairos and Christian theology; and the relationship between nature, the historical moment, and law. CfP Creative industry - Knowledge Innovation Mapping (KIEM)
The Creative Industry - KIEM programme aims to encourage and facilitate fundamental and industrial research. Researchers can apply for funding via KIEM on behalf of consortia of companies and researchers.
KIEM only finances projects involving a collaboration between at least one researcher and at least one private party. The private partner must fund part of the project (matching). The matching funds can be provided by more than one private partner.
A KIEM application can have up to two co-applicants. Co-applicants must also be researchers employed at a NWO-accredited research institution holding a PhD.
The assessment dates for 2018 are 21 June, 6 September and 8 November. Read more

Call for Proposals | Research Innovation and Sustainability Fund
The Research Innovation and Sustainability (RIS) Fund enables employees to apply for temporary teaching  release in order to have more time to write grant applications, or to finish one or more (substantial, strategic) publications so as to strengthen the track record significantly and qualify for a successful grant application in the near future.
In 2018 approximately ten applicants can be awarded a RIS fellowship. The next deadline for submitting applications is 1 September 2018.

Call for applications | PhD Finishing Fellowships
 The Faculty of Humanities invites applications for 0.5 FTE PhD Finishing Fellowships, tenable from January 1, 2019. Each fellowship will be for a period of up to 12 months. The award holder is required to deliver a completed dissertation (defined as "dissertation submitted to the examination committee") by the end of the fellowship period.
The application deadline is 1 October 2018.
