What Happens During the Summer

Well... the first thing we do is celebrate what the Lord has done this year in our area. On May 15th Good News Club teams, CEF local committee members, ministry supporters and those interested in starting clubs gathered together for a luncheon at Grace Bible Presbyterian Church in Sharonville.
It was an uplifting and encouraging time for volunteers who rarely get to see people from other clubs. Club representatives spoke about their clubs' blessings, challenges and the information was very helpful to other clubs as they think about next year. Roger Wismer, club volunteer in Lebanon who has been very active in ministry over the years, spoke about the role grandparents can play in children's lives through CEF and how Good News Club is a highly effective outreach for churches with a heart for evangelism. Finally, Good News Club Coordinator Carolyn Horton gave a glimpse of next year's curriculum series and fall training.

After celebrating the 2017-2018 school year, the CEF committee and teams focus on the upcoming year. Summer is a perfect time to speak to friends, churches and neighbors about starting clubs in local schools, apartment complexes or anywhere children meet safely. We will accompany you to talk to people and show them what happens in Good News Clubs with presentations, videos and other resources. CEF's Summer 5-Day Clubs

If Good News Club and Vacation Bible School were combined, you would have a CEF 5-Day Club. It's an action-packed one and a half hours each day for five consecutive days and includes Bible lessons, learning activities, missionary story, meaningful songs and Scripture memorization.
5-Day Club is open to all boys and girls between the ages of five and twelve, regardless of religious background and parents are welcome to attend the club with their child. Summer clubs are taught by teens and adults at parks, neighborhood centers, apartment complexes, shelters and trailer communities. Teens are trained for clubs through CEF's Christian Youth in Action (CYIA) which involves a training camp teaching them to become young missionaries. Ohio's training camp is in early June at Cedarville University, Cedarville, OH.

Currently we do not have any 5-Day Clubs planned in the Cincinnati area this summer. If you or your church would be interested in holding one next summer, please contact us at (513) 456-1675.

Meet the Local Committee

Sandy Silvashy is our chapter's secretary and no stranger to CEF and Good News Club. She has volunteered in a club in Liberty Township and has been on the Lebanon team for the past three years. Sandy has a gift for engaging children and everyone she meets and it starts with her warm, friendly smile. She is very active in her church and is one of those people who quietly ministers to others unnoticed, especially the elderly and shut-ins.
Sandy and her husband, Jim, have four children and became grandparents for the first time this year. They live in Fairfield and are enjoying their summer with children home from college and a little vacation time.
