July 2018

Updates:

June Borough Council Update:
All Council members and the Mayor were present at the June meeting.  Here's what happened:
  • Council voted unanimously to waive permit fees for the Fire Company.  Discussion was limited to pointing out that this was in addition to the tax that was levied to pay for the fire house.
  • Council voted unanimously to go forward with purchasing land with Trappe Borough to use for road salt/sand storage.
  • After many questions and much discussion, Council voted 5-2 to give preliminary approval to Royal Farms' plan as presented to Council that night.  (Kernen and Spencer voted against).

June Collegeville Dems Meeting Notes:
We discussed the Royal Farms issue, heard about various campaigns that need help with canvassing, got a Joe Webster campaign update from Marcus Muni (Joe's campaign manager), and discussed the role the of funding in campaigns.

From the Collegeville Municipal Chair

Friends,
The Collegeville Democrats promote democratic ideals locally and work to elect top quality candidates for borough, county, state and federal offices.  The Collegeville Democrats are also responsible for conducting the business operations of the Party at the borough level, including overseeing local Democratic election campaigns, maintaining a Political Action Committee and approving expenditures.

Since every year is an election year in Pennsylvania, we start early and work diligently and cooperatively to help secure victory for Democrats.  A strong local organization can make the difference between winning and losing elections.  Please consider lending your talent and your time to our local Party efforts so that we can keep Democratic ideals moving forward in Collegeville as well as Montgomery County, our state and the country!  By joining the Collegeville Democrats, you will enjoy working with a wonderful group of like-minded people while you make a real difference in your community.

Meetings: We hold regular meetings to which all Democrats are invited on the last Wednesday of every month from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the faculty/staff dining room of the Wismer Center on the Ursinus College campus.  We also hold training seminars and informational sessions, participate in local fairs and festivals, and hold several social events during the year.

We hope you will join us! Start by Liking our Facebook page, where we announce upcoming events and activities.

Montgomery County is broken up into 15 separate areas. Collegeville is in Area 4.  This map shows all the MCDC areas for the county.  Area 4 meets every month on the second Thursday at the IBEW hall at 3900 Ridge Pike, Collegeville.

Candidate Closeup: John Fetterman

Fetterman is Pennsylvania's Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor.  After serving Pittsburgh for two years through the Americorps program and earning a masters in public policy, Fetterman wanted to focus urban challenges and economic inequality. He moved to Braddock, ran for public office and for the past 12 years, he has served as the mayor of Braddock, a small town in western Pennsylvania.  Fetterman emerged as one of the state’s leading progressive voices for working people, running on issues like inequality, improving healthcare, racial justice, and ending the failed war on drugs – issues that the Democratic Party is now recognizing as key to winning over and turning out voters.

PA Dems State Committee Update

The Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee held its reorganization meeting on Saturday June 16th in Harrisburg.  The State Committee elected Nancy Patton Mills as Chair of the State Party, Sen. Sharif Street as Vice Chair, and Alexander Reber as Treasurer.  Read more here.
