Need to know MOM volunteer info

The Wisconsin Dental Association and WDA Foundation 2018 Mission of Mercy in the greater Milwaukee area is next week on June 22 and 23.

A few volunteer reminders: NOTE: Leave valuables at home or lock them up out of sight in the trunk of your vehicle. There is not a secured area for you to leave personal belongings, such as purses, car keys and cell phones.

Thank you for all you do every day to help people enjoy good oral health and for volunteering.

See you soon!

Lawmakers onsite

During every MOM event, we invite our elected officials and policymakers to tour or volunteer. While talking about the good work done at these events has an impact, there is nothing quite like seeing the scale of this event in person to drive the point home. This year, we have a fantastic, bipartisan group of state legislators, staffers, and other officials that will be joining us throughout Friday and Saturday, both to tour the event and to take time out of their days to help out. We have found that attendance at a MOM event has a significant impact on how lawmakers view access to, and delivery of, oral health care.

If you have questions, contact Matt Rossetto at mrossetto@wda.org or 414-755-4130.

YOU are a spokesperson

Primary media spokespersons are state and local MOM committee members, department leads and WDA officers but you, too, could be tapped by the onsite WDA public relations team to share your personal volunteer story with a news reporter.

Review our detailed and key talking points to be ready if you are asked to step in.

If you are asked to speak with a reporter – before, during or after MOM – and are not interested or unavailable, it’s OK to say, “No, thank you.” The PR team wants volunteers (and patients) to feel comfortable. Another spokesperson will be identified.

Most people today have cell phones with photo and video capabilities. Please assume everything you say and do at MOM could be “on the record” and shared without your knowledge or approval.

ABOUT THE WDA FOUNDATION

WDA Foundation
Established in 1957 as a charitable subsidiary of the Wisconsin Dental Association, the WDA Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization. It is committed to improving the oral health and overall well-being of Wisconsin residents while supporting the needs of the dental community. Donations to the WDA Foundation are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

The foundation is largely supported by WDA members. However, costs associated with a large-scale project such as Mission of Mercy require an expanded donor base and solicitation of grants from industry-related sponsors, community supporters, other foundations and local dental societies.

NATIONAL MOM FOUNDATION

America's Dentists Care Foundation

America's Dentists Care Foundation (ACDF) is the nonprofit organization that owns and transports all of the dental equipment to MOM projects nationwide.

It was formed in 2008 when MOM organizers in Kansas and Nebraska combined their equipment and loaned it to other states. Rental fees help cover equipment maintenance, replacement and warehousing, staff support and foundation office space.

We appreciate ADCF’s support throughout the planning and execution of each WDA MOM event. Visit their website to learn more.
