Three Models for Change - A Prelude

In collaboration with the University of Birmingham and Recent Activity, join us for a preliminary display of elements from the upcoming exhibition Three Models for Change on Friday 1 June, 6–8pm at Centrala.

Shown within the confines of a vitrine, this initial display presents several fictional and archival documents, which contribute to a larger discussion around communal models and their future potentials.The display and forthcoming exhibition includes existing work and new commissions by artists Chris Alton, Ian Giles and Greta Hauer.

Three Models for Change

In collaboration with the University of Birmingham, Three Models for Change, will take place at Stryx in Minerva Works, Digbeth, June 2018.

Three Models for Change is a group exhibition asserting the importance of historical awareness in establishing future potentials of communities. The works in this exhibition fluctuate between three actual and staged narratives: the formation of a fictional Quaker-punk band; the staging of cross-generational Queer histories; the uncertainty surrounding a newly formed volcanic island and its territorial disputes.

This exhibition includes existing work and new commissions by artists Chris AltonIan Giles and Greta Hauer.

Performance:
Rainbow Flag / Trojan Horse by Ian Giles


Ian Giles presents an immersive performance drawn from scripted conversations with the activist group which campaigned against the closure of The Joiners Arms, a Queer pub. Through role-play and texts, the play’s participants will collectively unpack what a queer space is and could be.
