Love your work. Love your life.

Dear Friends,

One simple question always tells me when my plate is overflowing. If any variation of "What is new?” “How are you?” “What have you been up to lately?” sends you into a mind flurry of confusion followed by a blank slate followed by wondering, you are either lacking sleep or overwhelmed. One way to tackle this common end-of-school-year feeling is to remove things from your plate. Anything that isn’t essential to your immediate needs or your daily happiness, needs to be delayed a few weeks. The coffee date with a friend, the trip planning, the volunteering. Right now, it is your job to focus and get back to your center. Before you know it, the response to “How are you?” will flow out of you with ease.

Back to center!

A New Way to Think About Balance

Last week I was traveling for two nights from Tuesday to Thursday.  I then took off Friday through the long weekend to be with my kids before we all returned to our daily routines. This is the balance of my life. Everyone’s is different. Each day is never a perfect balance between work and life. Instead, it might be all work one day and all life the next day.

Then, when you break it down into slices and add friends and a relationship and health, hobbies, family, community and your career, it gets even more complex. It looks like family - work - health - work - relationship - friends - family or some combo of them. The mistake is in beating yourself up over how you manage it. You are doing your best and the spice and fun of life entail a little bit of each of these slices and a lot of a few of them. So stop judging yourself. Enjoy a full life. Do it guilt-free and savor it!

The Press Box

I am putting my proud mom hat on and sharing my 12yo daughter Ella’s new website. She is way more of a badass than I ever was or ever will be. Ella aims to change the world and has just launched her first website:

Ella built and created the site on her own. She has asked me to spread the word to you and asks that you submit to her site any ads with “isms” - racism or sexism. Once received, she will contact the offending company and post it on her site.

Thank you for taking a look. I get commissions for sign-ups, so please sign up at adactivists.com.
