Hilburn Academy Parents, Staff & Community,
As we enter the final week of school, the PTA Board would like to extend a deep appreciation to parents, staff & the community who volunteered at our events throughout this school year! Without volunteers our programs would not be the success they are and for that we are so grateful for your time! During this last week of school the PTA will be hosting the Elementary School Dance (beach theme) on Wednesday. Also this week, Eighth Grade projects include: Legacy Wall painting and Field Day. Volunteers are needed for these projects & events if you can assist see the sign-ups below.
It is always important to share our successes and accomplishments and to keep everyone informed on what the PTA here at Hilburn Academy does to impact the quality of education for all students. Here is a list of some of our events held over this school year:
- Popsicles on the Playground (for incoming Kindergarteners & Family)
- Grounds & Gardens (two events this year)
- Back to School Picnic
- Staff Appreciation (monthly events as well as a weekly event in May)
- Classroom Fund (reimburse staff for school expenses)
- Room Parent Program
- School Store (held almost every Friday morning)
- Walk to School Wednesdays
- Family Nights Out (monthly meet-ups at local restaurants)
- Book Fair
- Friday Music at morning Carpool
- Cultural Arts Programs (four (4) held this school year)
- Spring Carnival
- Asphalt Basketball & Games Court (56'x60', should be completed in June 2018)
- Refreshments Provided for: monthly character awards, MS academic awards & 5th/8th grade graduations
- Coordinated & Assisted: Spiritwear, Picture Day, After School Program Registration, First in Fitness T-shirt's, Science Olympiad T-shirts, Special Olympics T-shirts, other events...
- Middle School Events: Legacy project, 8th grade dance, outings throughout the year, theater production, & field day
- Communication Program: Weekly Hawk Talk, PTA website, Twitter & Facebook posts

We wish staff & families a safe and happy summer break! We hope to continue to increase PTA memberships in the coming year to give a voice to all families & staff on ways we can continue to support Hilburn Academy to ensure every child gets a quality education!

New VP of Communications & Hawk Talk Editor
Nissa Byrne signing off...I've been keeping you up-to-date through Hawk Talk and social media for the last two years as VP of Communications, and now it's time to pass the keyboard to the capable hands of Dawn Vaughan, our current PTA Secretary and Room Parent Coordinator. She is planning to enhance Hawk Talk in new directions and we are looking forward to it.

Testing & Proctoring
Hilburn is testing through June 8. Please keep quiet in the halls.
View the School Calendar. Hilburn teachers need you as proctors. Without volunteer proctors, teachers, instructional assistants and support staff will need to proctor. Can you dedicate a chunk of time to help us make sure testing goes smoothly?

Elementary Dance
Wednesday, June 6
Let's Dance on the Beach
- PreK 8:30-9:00
- First Grade 9:10-9:55
- Second Grade 10:05-10:50
- Kindergarten 11:00-11:45
- Fourth Grade 12:20-1:05
- Fifth Grade 1:15-2:00
- Third Grade 2:10-2:55
PreK through Fifth Grade students will enjoy the dance in the multipurpose room or quiet time in the media center during their Specials period on June 6. Refreshing ice pops will be served at the end of the period. Sponsored by Hilburn PTA. Music mix donated by 360 Elite Entertainment.
Parent volunteers are needed to supervise the students and help with ice pop distribution. Open slots for PreK and Second Grade 8:00-9:00 and 10:00-11:00.

5th and 8th Grade Celebrations
Hilburn Academy invites all fifth grade and eighth grade families to join their students for their respective grade celebrations. Please join us in the multipurpose room. Eighth at 10 a.m. followed by Fifth at 12:30 p.m.

Elementary Character Award Breakfast
PTA joined counselor, Mrs. Daley, to celebrate Kids of Character. The character trait was Perseverance - To keep trying even when something is hard. PTA provided the breakfast of fruits, juice, and donuts. Thank you, Mrs. Daley and Valonda Calloway, for organizing this event. Thank you, Daylight Donuts Raleigh, for sponsoring with donuts.

Box Tops for Education
Got Box Tops? Bring them in to the Hawk in the Hilburn lobby. Every Box Top you donate benefits your school, Hilburn Academy. Our coordinator will count and ship them to BTFE to bank them before they expire. Thank you! You have donated over 11,000 box tops this year! Awesome!

Visions 2018-2019
Principal Walker is looking for help in a few areas for our school as she plans for the upcoming year. One summer project is redecorating the adult restrooms with a small table or stack of drawers in each and repainting with an inspirational phrase.
