News from the Lunchroom
School Lunch Accounts: Power School makes it easy to know when your account is low or at 0 funds. There is a box to check that will send an email right to you so you know your lunch balance.  Next year, we are not going to send you a paper copy.  We need to make aware to our students that if you have a 0 balance, you are not allowed to get extra main meal and/or extra milk.  We will always make sure that your child has lunch, but we are having issues with lunch accounts having 0 balances. If you are having financial issues, you still may sign up for free and reduced lunches.  That said, the families signed up for free and reduced also must make sure they have money in their account or bring money in, if your child wants extra main meal ($1) and extra milk ($.30). Those are not covered in the free and reduced program.  Please make sure you sign up to the Power School account to get your balance and sign up to have the balance sent to you.
Remember Breakfast Next year.
At school, there’s always a meal ready to be served! Some mornings, it’s tough to find the time to make sure your kids are eating a nutritious breakfast. On those days, why not send them to the School Breakfast Program? Each meal meets government nutritional guidelines and standards.  Schools are required to provide a breakfast meal that includes fruit, whole-grain rich items, and low fat or fat free milk. Check your child’s menu to see the variety of nutritious choices available at School Breakfast, or stop by to sample the food yourself!  7:30 a.m.-8:15 a.m.  If you're qualified for free and reduced lunch, you are also eligible for free or reduced breakfast.
Student survey for the year 17-18
Maybe your child told you about this or not, but in March/April we voted for some meals to stay in next years menu and for some to go away.  The winners that got to stay were:  Italian Dunkers(cheesy dipping bread), Mr Rib(pork rib) sandwich, Cowboy Cavatini, meatball sub, and taco soup/chili and cheese filled breadstick.  The items that are going away for most of the year are, deli ham & cheese, BBQ pork sandwich, fish patty, fish nuggets, and turkey hamburger.  We will still have a fish stick for Ash Wednesday and deli sandwich for Field Day. They really liked being able to help choose what they eat. We will try a couple of new items next year.  They will be a chicken alfredo dish, chicken drumstick and maybe even a new breakfast pizza. We will do some survey and voting on items again next year.  If you have any ideas that you think kids would like to have, let me know.  Be advised some of the following:
Low sodium<1230mg
Calorie minimums and maximums  550-700
No trans fat and low saturated fats <10%
And if it has a grain in it to be 51% or more whole grain.

We have tried to make our meals as kid friendly as possible and we hope your children are comfortable with coming to us with anything they would like to know.
