Calendar of Events

A note from my highchair... Recovery is in the air and it smells like Alano Club coffee.

As we approach the end of another membership year I would like to remind you of a few important things.  I know it seems as though we are always asking for money...but… operating expenses keep going up while our income is the same or less, depending on the success of our events.  Over the past 11-years, EAC depends on a strong membership to keep our club open.  Your attendance and support of these events is crucial to our existence.  Thank you!

Locks will be changed out on June 24 and we will need additional key-holding members to chair and open the club for meetings this upcoming 2018-19 year.  This is extra important in bad weather or when a new comer is waiting outside the door. We also have a new membership option for those who want to support the club, but not necessarily require a key – there Patron benefits start at $5 a month.  Learn more at www.elginalanoclub.org/membership

Happy Thoughts: After the last brunch, I heard some comments from first time visitors to our club.  They were impressed by our facility; it is always good to hear positive comments!  The pride of our members and patrons shines through when we take responsibility for its order and cleanliness.  When everyone pitches in, we can keep it that way.

Housekeeping Notes: Recycling has been a passion of mine for many years.  The cans we recycle bring in a few dollars when I sell them.  I am asking again for your help in making this a less messy job.  Please empty your cans and bottles before putting them in the recycle container.  Styrofoam cups DO NOT recycle; neither do paper towels and candy wrappers.

Vending Notes: Some clubs rely on an income from their coffee sales, in reality, we lose money on ours.  Groups who buy the coffee in the vending machine help a bit, even though the price does not cover the expense of cups, sugar, and creamer used by everyone.  If there were suggestions for soft drinks or snacks, you would like to see in the vending machine, please let us know! As I have said before, your input is welcomed and will be discussed at our board meeting (2nd Mondays at 6:30pm).  All you need to do is inform us either with a note in the suggestion box or comment on our website where it comes to the club.

One last thought…The Elgin Alano Club is a 501-c-3 non-profit organization. If your employer matches charitable funds, you may be able to use the check or credit card you apply towards for membership to give us an extra boost. A little can go a long way as we start our 2018-2019 Fiscal Year in July!

"Recovery is something like the restoration of a very old painting, covered over by layers and layers of darkening, distorted varnish ... Not all of the underlying pattern can be revealed at one time. What is uncovered, bit by bit and layer by slow, careful layer, are the things which are necessary and appropriate for me to know about myself right now."

"An Indescribable Benevolence," Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, August 1992 Step By Step
