Early June News

Dear <<First Name>>,

This summer we have a great range of teachings and events at Jamyang Leeds (check out the full programme here) with plenty of opportunities to deepen your understanding of the Buddhist spiritual path, connect with great teachers, and enjoy secular meditation classes and workshops to bring some calm and balance into your daily life.

In this edition of the newsletter we highlight the upcoming 16 Guidelines workshop, a great way to discover practical tools for creating a more meaningful and fulfilled life, and the brand new 'Introduction to Buddhism' course starting this evening!

We also have news of the JBCL summer social event at Harewood House with the Tashilhunpo monks, and the very special visit to Leeds by Ven. Dagri Rinpoche. Read on for further details and how to book for Rinpoche's teaching and public talk.

And don't forget, there is no 'Mindfulness for Daily Life' class this week, but it continues on Thursday 14th June.

Much love from the SPC and JBCL team.
Ven. Dagri Rinpoche, Leeds 2018 - Booking Now Open

Teaching and Public Talk - Monday 30 July, Leeds

Jamyang Leeds is pleased to announce booking is now open for this special opportunity to receive authentic Mahayana Buddhist teachings on the classic lojong text Eight Verses of Training the Mind from Ven.Dagri Rinpoche, a highly regarded Tibetan Buddhist Lama of the Gelug lineage - the lineage of HH Dalai Lama.

Lojong (mind-training) teachings are quintessential Mahayana teachings that help us to understand the mind and overcome the self-cherishing attitudes and self-grasping that stops us realising our innate capacity for compassion, wisdom and joy.

Ven. Dagri Rinpoche will be teaching this short but profound text of eight stanzas during the day, and in the evening giving a public talk entitled ‘The Importance of Compassion and Altruism in Modern Times’.

The event is open to Buddhist, non-Buddhist, people of all faiths and no faith. All welcome. Suggested donation: £70 for the teaching / £75 for the teaching and public talk / £6 for the public talk. For more information visit the Jamyang Leeds website here.

Click here to book on Eventbrite.

If you are interested in sponsoring this special event please get in touch with Kerry Prest by emailing director@jamyangleeds.co.uk.

  • The nature of reality from a buddhist perspective

Inspired by Buddhist philosophy, the 16 Guidelines workshop and resources are practical tools for creating a more meaningful and fulfilled life. The idea behind the 16 Guidelines workshop is simple; we can change the way we experience the world by transforming the way we think, act, relate and find meaning.

How We Think: Humility, Patience, Contentment and Delight

How We Act: Kindness, Honesty, Generosity, Right Speech

How We Relate to others: Respect, Forgiveness, Gratitude, Loyalty

How We Find MeaningAspiration, Principles, Service, Courage

This workshop is a great opportunity to deepen your understanding of the 16 Guidelines, with taught sessions, group discussions, meditations and reflection. Workshop participants will come away with the confidence to incorporate the Guidelines into their lives for increased emotional resilience, improved relationships and a greater sense of wellbeing and purpose.

The 16 Guidelines (level one) workshop is led by accredited 16G facilitator (and former JBCL Director) Wendy Ridley. This course requires pre-registration. To book email smile@jamyangleeds.co.uk or visit the JBCL website here. Suggested donation £25 per day.

JBCL Summer Social Event - update
We are currently organising a very special Jamyang Leeds summer social event, so hold the date - Thursday 26th July! The Tashilhunpo monks are in residence at Harewood House for a few days this summer to create a stunning sand mandala.

JBCL is coordinating wth the Harewood House team to organise a social event that will incorporate seeing the monks perform the ceremony for the dispersal of the sand mandala, a visit to the Harwood House stupa and a shared picnic in the relaxing grounds afterwards. We are still in the planning stage, but save the date and more details will be announced shortly.

Everyone is welcome, and we especially hope people from Jamyang Leeds satellite and study groups from across the UK will join us too. Please note we have negotiated a special education rate with Harewood House, so there will be a £5 ticket fee for this event.
