Kia Ora koutou,
Aroha mai, it has been a little while since our last newsletter, and a lot has happened.
Just recently we held the annual school Crazy Day and I would like to take the opportunity to thank four of our wonderful senior students, who organised the day down to the last detail: Nathan James, Nakita Marx, Emma O’Brien and Adam McLean-Harvey. The range of fun activities, the spooky goblins, the time that went into setting up equipment the night before, the amazing make-believe map of the school, all made this day a great success.
Well done to all the netballers that took part in the Thames Valley competitions last week, from Year 5 through to Year 12 students. The teams fought hard, played fair, and all did our school extremely proud. Next week we have our Y5-8’s taking part in the Thames Valley Tackle Rugby Day, and our Y8-13 students going to the Thames Valley Senior Badminton competition in Te Aroha.
This week we had the Y11-13 Outdoor Ed tramp, which saw our fabulous Head of Outdoor Ed and PE, Miss Kelly Oldridge, and Whaea Vicki’s husband Doug, take a group of senior students to climb The Pinnacles. The weather was perfect tramping weather: rain, hail and wind! All returned safely, after having had a challenging, yet character-building experience.
Today itself is a big day, with our brilliant ePro8 Challenge team competing in the next round of competition, after having won the Thames Valley Round in Term 1. We also have Reuben the Road Safety Bear visiting our junior students!
And our wonderful staff have been busy upskilling and developing their trade, with a lot of professional development being attended. Our Y0-3 teachers continue to take part in the Incredible Years Teaching Programme, and yesterday also attended a Play in the Junior Classroom Workshop.
Thank you to those parents and whanau members who have completed the eLearning survey that was put on Facebook over the last two weeks. Feedback has been that it is very wordy and quite hard to answer, as it is full of ‘edu-speak’ - and I take your point. We will put together a new survey that gleans the same information, but in a much more appealing way.
Over the next month we will be taking stock of where CAS is at in terms of eLearning and ICT in our school, both with the use of it throughout our teaching and learning programmes, and the actual hardware and software used. The goal is to develop a 5-year vision for CAS for eLearning & work out the steps we need to put in place to achieve that goal. We will be sharing this vision with our whanau over the course of the next Term.
As we are counting down to the end of another huge Term, I take stock of all that has occurred over the last six months at Coromandel Area School, and I am extremely proud and satisfied of the journey we have taken, and continue to take. We have hard-working and committed kaiako, we have awesome akonga who amaze me everyday with their grit, determination and character, and we have this beautiful whenua that makes it easy to come to mahi each day.
Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa
