City of Niagara Falls Bee City Designation

NIAGARA FALLS, ON - Join us in the celebration of the City of Niagara Falls being designated a Bee City. The designation will take place at the Fairview Cemetery, where recently over 10,000 pollinator plants have been installed at the Cemetery’s newly developed green burial section. The City will become the 13^th city in Canada to become a Bee City. A Bee City is part of a North American movement to support pollinator protection. Bee City communities support collaboration and establish and maintain healthy pollinator habitat within the municipality.

The public is welcome to attend to hear from Shelly Candel, Director of Bee City Canada and Renee Delaney from Small Scale Farms to learn about the importance of bees and their effect on our environment. Mayor Jim Diodati will be in attendance to accept the designation from Bee City Canada.

WHAT: The City of Niagara Falls will be designated a Bee City by Bee City Canada.
WHERE: The ceremony will take place at the Fairview Cemetery, 4501 Stanley Avenue. Fairview Cemetery is home to Niagara's only Green Burial site that houses thousands of pollinator wildflowers.
WHEN: Friday, June 15, 2018. The ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m.
WHO: Bee City Director, Shelly Candel and Renee Delaney from Small Scale Farms will be speaking about the importance of bees. The public is welcome to attend.
WHY: The City of Niagara Falls recognizes the importance of bees and their effect on our food supply. The City has taken a pro-active approach through the installation of pollinator gardens on municipal lands.
