A MUST-SEE, LAUGH-OUT-LOUD COMEDY

One Man, Two Guvnors is a play by Richard Bean, an English adaptation of Servant of Two Masters, a 1743 Commedia dell'arte style comedy play by the Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni. The play replaces the Italian period setting of the original with Brighton in 1963. When the play opened at the National Theatre in 2011, with James Corden in the leading role, it met with widespread critical acclaim.

The Guardian gave it 5 stars, saying that it was "A triumph of visual and verbal comedy. One of the funniest productions in the National's history."

The Daily Telegraph described it as "the feelgood hit of the Summer." The Independent wrote that it is a "massive hit" and

London's Evening Standard as "a surefire hit". Blogging site Everything Theatre described it as "one of the most side-splittingly hilarious productions ever to be staged in London".

Set in sleazy Brighton in the 1960s, "One Man, Two Guvnors" is a glorious celebration of British comedy featuring a unique, laugh-out-loud mix of satire, songs, slapstick and glittering one-liners.  This internationally acclaimed smash-hit has been seen by over one million people worldwide.

Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe, a small time East End hood, now in Brighton to collect £6,000 from his fiancée’s dad. But Roscoe is really his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers.

Holed up at The Cricketers’ Arms, the permanently ravenous Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and takes a second job with one Stanley Stubbers, who is hiding from the police and waiting to be re-united with Rachel. To prevent discovery, Francis must keep his two guvnors apart.  Simple …

Our November show, which runs from Tuesday 27th November until Saturday 1st December is the wonderful "Into the Woods".

This Stephen Sondheim classic, award-winning musical brings together well-known fairy tale characters, but ‘Happily Ever After’ turns out to be far from the end of the story.

Whilst all the elements are there – a golden slipper, corn-yellow hair, a milky-white cow, a blood-red cloak, magic beans and, of course, the curse of a witch – the familiar find themselves in very unfamiliar circumstances.

Prepare for a musical full of wit and intelligence that is far more than ‘Once upon a time…’

Featuring the timeless songs Children Will Listen and No-one Is Alone, this Tony Award-winning musical was recently made into a successful Disney feature film starring Meryl Streep, James Corden and Johnny Depp.

Wil Pearson's debut album, 'Blue', produced along with talented trumpeter Josh Short, is now available to buy. This record has been influenced by the great blues and jazz artists of the 20th century, featuring classics like Ain't No Sunshine, Angel Eyes, I Feel Good, and the haunting I'll Be Seeing You. Wil has also written an original song 'Try My Luck' which is exclusive to this CD.

LTC founder members Carol and Ken Brown are having a break from acting in order to pursue their passion for Japanese Taiko Drumming. Their group, “Tribal Taiko” will be performing at this year’s Swadlincote Festival of Leisure. The festival takes place at the Maurice Lea Memorial Park on 23rd & 24th June with marquees, fairground rides, side shows and demonstrations, etc., and entrance is free on both days. Ken & Carol will be performing on the Saturday afternoon 23rd. They performed there last year, and have also performed at a major Taiko concert in Newport, Shropshire and in end of term concerts at a Tamworth school. Bill & Elaine Pritchard kindly sent them this message after seeing them at last year’s festival, “Delight to watch. So enjoyed it. Love the way the bigger drums seem to echo in my chest. Almost primeval noise."

Carol and Ken are pictured in their orange tops, third and fourth left.
WELL HELLO MISS BANCROFT! A GIRL IN A HURRY!
It was an exciting time recently at the home of LTC's Matt and Tilley Bancroft, with the birth of their beautiful daughter, Penelope Rose.

Tilley started having contractions at 7.15am and quickly realised she wasn't going to make it into a car in time. Ably assisted by their son Jojo who fetched towels, the proud father delivered the baby on the sofa less than an hour later, ten minutes before the paramedics arrived.

Tilley commented: "I have been assured I only swore twice! Jojo was amazing and totally chilled once we told him the neighbours really wouldn't mind me being so loud (!) and that I needed to make those noises to get his sister out.

Matty was as cool as a cucumber and because of his fine work, Penny and I didn't need to go to hospital, I, having no stitches at all and she, being absolutely perfect.

Can I just say at this point how utterly grateful I am to my heroic boys. Jojo was brilliant, so brave and wouldn't leave my side for the whole day. And Matty was calm, gentle, firm (I wasn't being very cooperative at first!) and the very first person our daughter ever saw. I wouldn't have had it any other way."

GOOD LUCK IN YOUR NEW JOBS, GIRLS!

The beauty-conscious of Burton are lamenting the imminent closure of the Coopers Square-based, luxury cosmetics shop 'Heaven Scent' after 38 years. LTC members Sonja Wardle and Georga Ratcliffe will lose their jobs but we're delighted to report that both have found really exciting new opportunities:

Sonja (left) will be working for Burton-based lifestyle blogger Claire Guest and her online magazine "OneChicMom". Claire, who got to know Sonja as one of her Heaven Scent clients, is happy to bring her up to date with technology because Sonja's experience in fashion and cosmetics, both in London and the Midlands, is exactly what she's been looking for. "It's never too late" laughs Sonja, "it's your attitude that ages you."

Meanwhile Georga is going to be working for retailmap, a market leader in the research and analysis of pricing in the fashion and home retail sectors, which operates globally.
Her role will combine research with data analysis and will involve her in travelling all over the world. Go Georga!

Fresh from playing Bloody Mary in "South Pacific" this Easter, Scarlett Marchant has taken up a slightly more benevolent role. She's started an apprentice healthcare support programme at Queens Hospital, Burton as a first step towards a career as a nurse.
On the completion of her PGCE, Harley Pantall will be starting her first job as a Geography & Religious Studies Teacher at Great Sankey High School in Warrington in September. (Those of you who remember her playing the very naughty schoolgirl Mary McGinty in the LTC's "Once a Catholic" might struggle to supress a wry smile. Harley is pictured bottom right. Can you name the other nine schoolgirls?)

In the meantime she's doing her final teaching placement at the British International School in Nicosia, Cyprus. "It's a tough gig" admits Harley, doing her lesson prep by one of the school's outdoor pools, "but someone has to do it."
Retired school teacher Jane German is a founder member of the Little Theatre Company, and has fond memories of the Burton School of Speech & Drama. The most memorable production she was involved in at that time was the 1975 production of “The Boyfriend” in which she took the leading role of Polly opposite Mike Mear’s Tony. Their soft shoe shuffle to the closing bars of "All I want is a Room in Bloomsbury" was a real highlight for her. Ever the romantic lead, Mike presented Jane with an orchid and a card “To Polly, for being a wonderful leading lady”. The note dropped out of the programme she had kept for all these years when she opened a box of theatrical memories recently.

Jane also played opposite Peter Clemson in a number of productions. One favourite was “A Chorus of Disapproval” in 1991 but perhaps the ultimate was “Titanic” in 2010 when, as Ida, she refused to leave the ship without her beloved husband Isidor Straus. Their duet "Still" celebrating their love in the face of certain death was a very poignant moment.

Having retired after almost 36 years as a teacher at Violet Lane Primary School in Stapenhill, Jane has kept busy with her beloved garden and greyhounds, overseas travel to visit family in Australia and South Africa, and volunteering for organisations such as the National Trust. She currently acts as a social car driver and befriender for Swadlincote CVS, and visits a local care home.

Favourite Theatre Show: The Lion King
Favourite Film: (embarrassed pause) Ice Age – great characters, so funny, so contemporary on the environment and all about survival against the odds
Favourite Actor: Sidney Poitier
Favourite Actress: Penelope Wilton; loved her in "The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society" recently.
Advice to a Young Actor: Believe in yourself!
Favourite LTC part: Senna in “Up Pompeii” and the Mother Abbess in “The Sound of Music”. (Two lovely choices which demonstrate Jane’s versatility!)
From the world of film and theatre, now and in the past, who are the six people you’d invite round for dinner?  David Attenborough, Martin Clunes, Billy Connelly, Thora Hird, Maxine Peake & Victoria Wood.

Jane is pictured below as Polly, alongside Mike Mear, and more recently as Senna and the Mother Abbess

Former LTC Newsletter Editor Elaine Pritchard had great fun recently reprising her performance as Madame Edith from the LTC’s 2007 production of “Allo Allo” in a special evening at the Dragon, Willington. She even got to sing “Falling in Love Again” in Edith’s inimitable style. She’s pictured (left) alongside former LTC member Tom Fermor (right).
EWAN'S OFF TO EDINBURGH!

LTC Youth member Ewan Bourne, who played Lieutenant Joseph Cable in the recent production of “South Pacific” is off to perform at the Edinburgh fringe this year with a group of people whom he met through projects at school. The group is performing a modern version of Shakespeare’s  Titus Andronious in the old English Shakespearean way but with a Pulp Fiction/ Goth like thread running through it. Ewan will be playing Aaron, the lover of the daughter of the Roman Emperor who is out to destroy the family. You can catch it at 2pm between 11-18 August at the Paradise in the Vault Theatre, Merchant Street.
ANYONE FOR CAKE?
LTC Mother and daughter team Karen and Katie Hailstone are avid bakers and their business, Bidmead Bakery, makes bespoke cakes and cupcakes for celebrations and events, helping to raise money for a variety of charities such as Bloodwise and Transaid.

Their philosophy is to make everything freshly to order and by hand, to always use best quality, natural ingredients such as real butter and free range eggs, and to make edible decorations wherever possible.

They are very proud to support the LTC by selling their cupcakes in the foyer during LTC show weeks. For every production, they design a new cupcake, in keeping with the theme of the show, and all proceeds go to the LTC. Their delicious cakes can be enjoyed during show intervals or can be boxed up to be taken home.

They are delighted to accept commissions for a special occasion. For more information, check them out HERE

(When not baking or working full-time in IT, Katie spends her leisure time as LTC's Musical Director, while Karen works hard for the LTC, both back-stage and on-stage; a recent role was Mother Dearest in "Betty Blue Eyes". )
JACKIE - QUEEN OF THE NIGHT?!

LTC Wardrobe Mistress Jackie Pearson writes:

On Saturday 12th May, I was one of 15,000 people who took part in The MoonWalk - a 26.2 mile overnight walk in London to raise money for vital breast cancer causes. We all braved the cold and wore decorated bras (including the men) well into the night to further raise awareness.

I wanted to do this for those special people who have lost their fight against breast cancer, for those who have fought and survived and for those who are battling through it right now.

It was tough, particularly towards the end, but such an amazing and emotional experience. Many of the buildings and landmarks including the London Eye were lit up pink just for us!

Everyone who took part including the organisers, the marshalls and the walkers were united for one reason - to raise money and awareness about this dreadful disease.

So far I have raised well over £900. If anyone would like to sponsor me please click on the link below as it is still possible to donate by clicking HEREThank you!

Last month, Jack Hawkins was given the fantastic opportunity to perform in one of his favourite musicals for the second time. We last saw Jack on stage with us in our November 2015 production of "Spamalot", playing Prince Herbert. Although Jack was originally hesitant to audition for the show (he doesn't normally like to do the same show twice), the opportunity to perform the smash hit Monty Python extravaganza at The Lowry Theatre at Salford Quays was too good to pass up. Jack was fortunate enough to play the coconut wielding Patsy alongside a lovely cast of brilliant performers - although the experience would never match up to the joy of the LTC version!

Jack has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Patsy in the Manchester Musical Awards, and also has a nomination for Best Actor for Leo Bloom in "The Producers" which was performed last November.

Katie Ireland overcame her fears to undertake a sky dive last month, raising over £2,000 with four other students from Sheffield University, in aid of the Mental Health Foundation. She commented that belting out 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina' on the Brewhouse stage in front of hundreds of people was nothing in comparison.

This month saw her at Buckingham Palace to receive her Gold Duke of Edinburgh award. We're proud of you Katie!

Last year, as reported in an LTC Newsletter, Sam Pearson and Liam Atton started work on a short zombie film. Nearly a year later, the film is finally complete and has been shortlisted for the Marston’s Beer Town Film Festival.
The film will be screened on the 26th May at the Brewhouse, and then the following night at the actual festival at Marston’s Brewery. The film features slapstick comedy, gore, vomit and also many members of Little Theatre Company.
If you would like to see the film, you can watch it on YouTube by clicking HERE:

Sam and Liam would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved, especially to Emily Woolford for her makeup talent, which really made the film so much more special!
There will be many other projects in the future, so keep an eye on the Pearson Production Facebook page if you would be interested in helping out in the future!
