LOHADA working harder as food gets scarcer
The work of LOHADA has never been more critical. Throughout the winter, the Shinyanga region, home to many LOHADA children, faced hunger as drought conditions became dire. Northern Tanzania did not receive the ample rains farmers depend upon; a worm blight devastated the few plants that survived. Then, in mid-April, much of the country was pummeled with rains and flooding.
Before the floods, people in Shinyanga had been scavenging wild plants to eat. Now the situation is exacerbated.
In Arusha, heavy rains have wiped out many homes, contaminated drinking water and killed several people. The danger of a cholera epidemic is high. LOHADA is combatting the effects of the disaster. In the rural area outside of Shinyanga, a preschool for very young children provides rice and beans, often the only food children receive that day. In Arusha, LOHADA's schools and children are safe, but their extended families in the slums are at risk.
Please pray for people of Tanzania, and for LOHADA to be able to help meet their needs.
