DOODLE FIGHTS!
7pm at Ratio Beerworks
2920 Larimer Street, Denver

Doodle Fights! are back to kick off an early celebration of 2018 Denver Zine Fest!

Explosive things can happen when Denver’s talented cartoonists’ community gets together to jam, and now, you can take a ringside seat and get a taste of the zany action at Doodle Fights! A friendly elimination competition and comics reading showcasing a crew of local artists. And if you go, you’ll be more than an innocent bystander: “Doodle fighters” will take subject cues from audience members and work madly behind the scenes while their cohorts read comic excerpts on stage, and winners will be determined by a vote from the crowd. Imagine a mash-up of poetry readings and WWE for the nerdset. There's a high possibility of inadvertent adult material!

Some of the best indie cartoonists will be reading their comics, as well as an assortment of artists battling against each other on the easels armed only with sharpies! It's a free event!

Zine Olympics
12-1pm, Sunday, June 24
Speed Stapling
Each participant will be given three sheets of paper, each with a different pattern of numbered circles. The participant must staple within each circle, in the order in which they are numbered, as quickly as possible. Points will be deducted for inaccuracy. This is a timed event--the best time wins.

Precision Folding
Each participant will fold sheets of paper to various lengths and widths (for example, half-size, quarter-size, tri-fold, etc.). This is a timed event, but the focus is on accuracy. Best time wins.

Proper Assemblage
This is a doubles event, with 2 members per team. Each team will be given 5 zines, each of which has been mis-collated. The team must determine the proper order of the pages, re-collate them, then reassemble them. Fastest time wins.

Stapler Relay Race
This is a team event, consisting of 2, 3 or 4 member teams. Each team member must accurately staple a particular requested pattern on a piece of paper, then pass the paper to the next team member, who must then complete their portion. Quickest time wins.

Creative Cover Design
This individual event will take place throughout the day. Participants must randomly choose a title for an imaginary zine, then come up with the best cover they can. Creativity, imagination, and general design skills are key. The covers will be voted on by the public, and the cover with the most votes wins.
