A Big Year Ahead for Nokiiwin Tribal Council.
|
|
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish to inform you that Audrey Gilbeau, Nokiiwin's Executive Director will be on medical leave for the next couple of months and that in her absence, Roger Rozon is our Acting Executive Director. We wish Audrey a quick recovery, and we hope to see her back soon. In the meantime, we are pleased that Roger can step in to ensure our team has leadership and to manage the day to day operations. During this time, the team at Nokiiwin will be overseeing the finishing touches on our new office at 384 Fort William Road, a grand opening at the end of the summer or early fall and be preparing for our AGM in early August.

Nokiiwin moves to 384 Fort William Road, Thunder Bay
|

The Board and Staff at Nokiiwin are proud to announce the new location of the satellite office on 384 Fort William Road, right down the street from the previous Court Street location. The new building has added capacity, capable of housing the new Restorative Justice department and a dedicated space for the Mino-niigaanedmowin program.

New Move, New Department:

Please welcome Nokiiwin's new Restorative Justice department, Cheryl Suggashie, Natalie Posala, James Barsby and Joy Wakefield. These four intrepid additions to the Nokiiwin team will be spearheading the effort to improve restorative justice for our community members.

Skills Inventory Initiative
Corey Anderson, a new staff and member of Kiashke Zaaging Anishinaabek (Gull Bay First Nation) will be overseeing the Skill Inventory. This repositioned initiative will provide decision maker's with authoritative, evidence-based research to inform future workforce readiness and economic development strategies.

With two major events now complete, the G'minoomaadozimin initiative with the Health & Safety, Mental Health, Restorative Justice and Disabilities programs have achieved a new vision for the future.

The Telling Our Stories project is a video series highlighting culture, language, history and land-based skills. The project which began in December 2017 is coordinated by Erin Collins, a filmmaker from Fort William First Nation.

Mino-niigaanendmowin
Community Update
With summer just around the corner, many of the 50+ participants in the Mino-niigaanendmowin program will be starting their work placement. During this time, the program seeks to form a steering committee that will provide policy guidance.

Education
Program Update
There are important changes happening in Nokiiwin's education department. The department is currently in the process of hiring an Educational Advisor to support the transition of the Anishinaabek Education System (AES).

The Nokiiwin Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Erin Desjardins to the Waste Management Coordinator and Sandy Taddeo to the Support Service Coordinator positions.
Similarly, Lisa Primavesi has transitioned from the Education Navigator to the Teacher at the Nokiiwin hub of the Mino-niigaanedmowin program.
