Update 3, May 2018

We are counting down to Club Day and our 150th dinner. Queens Birthday is a big weekend for the club as we celebrate the anniversary of the establishment of the Nelson Club.

Get involved in the activities running on Saturday — pop along to Neale Park in the morning and cheer on the juniors, potentially star in the Grass Roots rugby show as they film the juniors, talk to some of the club's stalwarts, and film the Nelson v Collingwood Festival Game.

Please feel free to forward this email to anyone you think might be interested — we are keen to get as many "blue-blooded" NRFC members, past players and supporters involved in the club's activities, supporting our teams, popping into the club rooms after a games for a catch up, and joining in the 150th celebrations.

Nelson v Collingwood Festival Match

Kick off 1:15pm at Neale Park

The Collingwood Club was founded in 1889 and has a proud history in the region. In 2014 they celebrated their 125th Anniversary.

Every year Nelson and Collingwood play for the Brydon/Strange Cup - a fixture that celebrates the strong connection between the two clubs and recognises the importance of the Brydon and Strange families to both clubs.

Earlier this year the Cup was up for grabs and after a tight contest Collingwood were the victors.

As part of our 150th celebrations Collingwood have kindly agreed to field a team to play the B's in a game to celebrate the great game of rugby.

Grass Roots Rugby

The team from Grass Roots Rugby will be in Nelson to film some of the activities around our 150th celebrations.

They will be at Neale Park in the morning to film the juniors in action and later in the morning interview some of the stalwarts of the club.

In the afternoon they will be filming the Nelson v Collingwood game with full commentary.

Congratulations Leicester Faingaanuku

Leicester has been selected to represent New Zealand in the Under 20s squad for the World Rugby Championship in France, 25 May – 18 June 2017.

Leicester played his junior rugby for the Nelson Club, went on the captain the Nelson College 1st XV, and returned to Nelson to play senior rugby. As well as delivering on the field Leicester is a great role model and club man — the day before he was selected for the U20's squad he was at the clubrooms helping with junior registration.

U20's Head Coach Craig Philpott is looking forward to seeing what Leicester can create on the field as part of an exciting back three combo.

New Zealand is set to face Japan, Wales and Australia in a tough pool play assignment.

New Zealand Under 20 schedule (matches will be broadcast live on TVNZ Duke)

New Zealand v Japan, Thursday 31 May 7am (NZT)

New Zealand v Wales, Monday 4 June 2.30am (NZT)

New Zealand v Australia, Friday 8 June 7am (NZT)

Good luck Leicester — we will be cheering you on.
